While many gamers currently have their attention on Gamescom this week, Pokémon has decided it needs to be a part of the action. A new teaser has dropped on social media that feels better suited for a Silent Hill trailer than Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and it seems to hint at a big reveal set for later in the week.
According to information shared on the official Pokémon Twitter channel, a special trailer premiere is set for August 21, 2025, at 6 AM PDT. While it isn’t surprising to see a new trailer so close to the release of the new game, the additional line of text and image included with the post are raising eyebrows.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A Trailer Comes With “Advisory” Warning
According to the information provided with the teaser, “viewer discretion is advised”. This is followed by a disturbing image of a hand clutching at a fence that has been disintegrated by purple ooze. The setting is dark, offering a horror-like vibe not at all synonymous with the Pokémon franchise.
The image is likely showing a new option for nighttime exploration in Lumiose City, which could end in the debut of a new Mega. It is likely that the Pokémon that could debut will be a Poison-type, as the melted fencing looks to be the victim of an attack like Acid or Sludge Bomb.
The maturity warning could be a joke, but there has already been evidence that The Pokémon Company is taking Legends: Z-A in a more mature direction. A recent trailer at the 2025 Pokémon World Championships has been met with mixed opinions after revealing a four-player co-op option that involves a chaotic battle royale addition. Additionally, the game seems to be taking on a more competitive edge, with demo runners comparing it to Souls games.
Pokémon that could debut as Mega-capable in a scenario like this are going to be Ghost-type or Poison-type. While Toxtricity is a possible option, Muk or Goodra seem more likely if looking at Sludge Bomb as the move that melted the fencing.
However, Phantump or Pumpkaboo would also be good haunts for an urban setting after dark.
While the most obvious guess is likely Gengar, the iconic Kanto Ghost-type already has a Mega form, and it is unlikely that The Pokémon Company would waste a planned video trailer for a Mega that players already know will be in Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
With just a few days to wait until the video goes live, it will be exciting to see what players speculate as they wait for the newest Pokémon Legends: Z-A news to be delivered.
