Cozy gamers were recently treated to the Wholesome Direct showcase as part of Summer Game Fest week. This event is one of our favorites here at BA, because it highlights the kinds of cozy games our team loves best. And this year’s show didn’t disappoint, with plenty of returning BA favorites and new games to get hyped for. That includes an exciting new surprise from Discounty, a shopkeeping sim with a slightly sinister twist. Our team has loved Discounty since it released in 2025, and now, there’s more to love.
The team behind Discounty has been teasing a big surprise during the Wholesome Direct. But none of us quite predicted what Discounty had in store. On June 6th, Crinkle Cut and PQube revealed that not only is the shopkeeping sim getting a new expansion, but it’s free. And it’s available for PC via Steam right now. Console gamers can expect the free update to arrive in July. But from the looks of it, People or Profit will be well worth the wait.
Discounty‘s New Free Expansion Leans Into Blomkest’s Biggest Tension, and I Can’t Wait
At the heart of Discounty‘s original story is the tension between capitalism and community. So, the game’s first major, free expansion is aptly leaning into that even more. Titled People or Profit, the newly unveiled add-on gives gamers a perfect excuse to return to Blomkest and decide its fate. The free major expansion adds a new final chapter where players will guide Blomkest towards community…or exploit it for dollar dollar bills. We’ll also get 3 different endings, new characters, and much, much more.

With the free expansion available on Steam right now, we already have in-depth patch notes to tell us everything that’s new with this major Discounty update. Players will be able to move out of the trailer into their own house, rebuild the town, select from a ton of new in-shop items, and invent new gadgets to make the shop even better.
As you restore the town, you’ll meet new characters and unlock 3 brand-new potential endings for Discounty. Those endings all depend on whether you opt to prioritize your fellow Blomkestians or try to make all the money at your store. In other words, you’ll be forced to choose between People or Profit. And maybe that includes learning a bit more about the dark secrets Blomkest may still be hiding?

If you play Discounty on Steam, you can install the free expansion today, June 6th. For console players, People or Profit is expected to release in July 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
