Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls just confirmed its first wave of DLC, which will consist of four new playable characters and a stage themed after one of Spider-Man’s most iconic villains. Guilty Gear and BlazBlue developer Arc System Works brought its brand of fast-paced, anime-style 2D fighting to the Marvel Universe back in August, and the results have been a smash hit so far.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls has earned much praise from fighting game fans and superhero enthusiasts alike, and quickly became the second-most downloaded PlayStation 5 title in the US and Canada in its first month on the market. The premise of the game is that an alien being known as The Champion has come to Earth in search of warriors to battle, prompting some of Marvel’s greatest heroes and villains to pair off in groups of four to answer the challenge.
The launch roster for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls was already pretty packed, and soon players will get to add four more champions to their superhuman line-ups. Marvel Tokon was present and accounted for during this weekend’s Evo France 2026 fighting game competition, where the Year 1 DLC was officially announced in an exciting Marvel Tokon trailer. One new character will be added to the game each quarter from this November to Summer 2027, and one of them will include a new playable stage. They will all be available to purchase either separately or as part of the Marvel Tokon Year 1 Season Pass.
Phoenix Cyclops Arises On November 2

The first Marvel Tokon DLC character is Phoenix Cyclops, who was previously announced earlier this month. Normally, the Phoenix Force inhabits Scott Summers’ long-time love interest Jean Grey, but it did take over Cyclops during the Phoenix Five comic storyline in 2014. Scott was one of five heroes empowered by the Phoenix Force, and he sought to use its immense cosmic power to bring about a safe world for mutantkind. However, this power soon proved too much, with Phoenix Cyclops even being driven to kill his mentor, Professor X.
Phoenix Cyclops will be available on November 2, and we have already seen some of his moveset thanks to an earlier Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls gameplay trailer. There, he demonstrated himself as a force to be reckoned with, combining his already-powerful optic blasts with the cosmic fury of the Phoenix. He’s also far more antagonistic toward his fellow X-Men (and Magneto), who try in vain to knock some sense into him. Phoenix Cyclops is voiced (quite bombastically, I might add) by Ray Chase, who masterfully channeled the late Norm Spencer in X-Men ’97.
Jane Foster’s Thor Brings The Thunder In Winter 2027

Next up is Jane Foster, aka The Mighty Thor. She’ll bring her powerful Mjolnir hammer and all the weather-manipulating abilities it comes with to Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls sometime in Winter 2027, which could mean either at the very end of this year or the very start of next. In the comics, Jane inherits the powers of Thor when the original Odinson becomes unworthy – though her newfound godhood comes at the cost of her breast cancer getting worse the more she uses Mjolnir. This plotline has been retold many times since it was first introduced in 2014, including the 2022 movie Thor: Love and Thunder.
Thor was the most prominent reveal of the EVO France Marvel Tokon announcement, which opened with a gameplay snippet of her confronting Loki. The wayward God of Mischief brags that the so-called “imposter” will never defeat him as the original did. Jane simply raises her hammer to prove him wrong as lightning strikes around her. Personally, I just want to see what happens when she faces off against the similarly-powered Storm.
Venom Breaks Free In Spring 2027

The third Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls DLC character is Venom, who will swing his way into battle at some point in the Spring of 2027. While many characters have bonded with the Klyntar symbiote over the years, this version will be the original Eddie Brock, who in the comics most recently reclaimed his identity after Venom parted ways with Mary Jane Watson. While he originally started out as an enemy out for Spider-Man’s blood, Venom has evolved into an antihero who often teams up with his wisecracking former foe to take down greater evils like Carnage.
Venom is also bringing along a new playable stage, set on the Symbiote planet of Klyntar. This prison world was made by the Symbiotes to hold Knull, the dreaded god of darkness who was once their oppressive ruler. Perhaps Knull himself will become a playable character in Marvel Tokon down the line, or at least have a cameo in the new stage.
Jubilee Rocks The House In Summer 2027

Last up on the Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Year 1 DLC roster is Jubilee, a young mutant with the ability to shoot firework-like energy blasts from her hands. Fans will most likely recognize her from X-Men: The Animated Series and X-Men ’97 (where she was largely the newcomer of the group), though she’s also served as a playable character in games like Marvel Rivals. Marvel Tokon is Jubilation Lee’s next gaming appearance, and she’ll be ready to help out her fellow X-Men sometime in the Summer of 2027.
Still here? Good.
