The latest ad for the upcoming Star Wars: Galactic Racer is sure to drum up nostalgia for anyone who played the classic Star Wars: Racer series back in the day. Star Wars gaming fans have been eating good in 2026 thanks to Star Wars Zero Company, and in less than a week developer Fuse Games is bringing back the blistering racing action of yesteryear with Galactic Racer – a high-octane thrill ride set in the peaceful time of the New Republic.
As Shade, the newest member of the Galactic League, players will get to pilot a wide range of classic vehicles from across the entire Star Wars franchise through familiar worlds like Tatooine and Jakku. To help fans get familiar with the many machines they will be operating in Star Wars: Galactic Racer, PlayStation has been releasing a series of videos titled “Under the Hood with Hibi,” in which the multi-armed, Ardennian mechanic talks viewers through the game’s different vehicle types.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer Is Bringing Back Podracing
The fourth, latest, and final “Star Wars: Galactic Racer – Under the Hood with Hibi” video is centered around Podracers, the chariot-like, engine-propelled hover cars that first appeared in Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. An excited Hibi describes how these fast and dangerous machines blast across the race course with incredible speed – though she warns that they are quite difficult for certain species (namely humans) to handle. A handy air brake helps you turn at the cost of your speed, but if you aren’t too careful, you’ll end up in a “big” crash, as Hibi puts it.
As I watch the gameplay footage in this latest Star Wars: Galactic Racer ad, I can’t help but recall the seminal Star Wars Episode 1: Racer from way back in 1999. Building off the iconic podracing scene from The Phantom Menace, Racer took players on a thrill ride across a wealth of different Star Wars planets, even winning over some of the Prequel Trilogy’s detractors along the way. Its success spawned an arcade racing cabinet and a 2002 sequel, but the original was the one my brother and I played with grit teeth on our old home computer back in the day.
And it looks like Star Wars: Galactic Racer is looking to recreate those same thrills, only with modern-day graphics that make every crash look like it was pulled straight from the Boonta Eve Classic. I’m already looking forward to reeving up the pods in this latest Star Wars release, which is set to hit the track on October 6.
