Basic Gameplay Overview

In Fields of Mistria, you play as a newcomer to the small town of Mistria. The town’s nobles have called you in to help them rebuild Mistria after a devastating earthquake. Your primary job is to cultivate fallow farmland into a productive source of food and materials, but you’ll also find yourself helping townspeople with various tasks along the way.
The basic gameplay loop consists of your daily farming tasks like planting crops, harvesting resources, and building your farm. You will also get requests in the mail and from the town request board, helping townspeople by bringing them items or helping them with various tasks.
Fields of Mistria also adds a town renown mechanic, where various tasks help improve Mistria’s reputation. Growing town renown will unlock new gameplay areas and elements, and you’ll also get rewards like new cosmetics and plenty of the in-game currency, Tessarae.

Character Creation & Pronoun Options

Fields of Mistria has a relatively straightforward character creator. You’ll choose your pixel-art eyes, hair style and color, skin color, and basic body shape. There are a few basic clothing options at the start, but you’ll be able to unlock more cosmetics as you play to change it up.
You also get to name your character, pick a birthday, choose pronouns, and name your farm.
The game has pretty robust pronoun options, including options like she/they and he/they as well as she/her, they/them, and he/him as well as all or no pronouns.
Is There Romance in Fields of Mistria?

Yes, Fields of Mistria will have romance with many options of all genders available for the player to choose from. You will be able to romance any character regardless of your character’s chosen gender. As of now, you cannot marry characters but you can begin earning hearts and unlocking early relationship events.
In Early Access, players can now unlock 2, 4, and 6 heart events with marriage candidates. More romance events, including marriage and kiddos, for these characters are planned for future updates.
So far, we’re pretty sure that characters who are marriage options have a different, heart-shaped icon next to their name during dialogue but are still working to confirm this.
Is There Magic in Fields of Mistria?
Yes, one of the exciting elements that make Field of Mistria unique is that you can learn magic spells.
It takes a few hours of gameplay to hit the point where you unlock the ability to do magic, so you’ll start with your standard farming tool setup. From there, you’ll continue to learn new helpful spells that make certain in-game tasks easier.
How to Increase Stamina
Stamina is increased by earning Stamina Up potions in Fields of Mistria.
These are obtained by increasing the town Rank a full level. It can be collected from the reward bin by the quest board and will provide +20 permanent stamina points. It will also restore the stamina bar when consumed.

How to Expand Your Bag in Fields of Mistria

When you first start out, you’ll have a frustratingly small number of available slots in your bag. Naturally, you will immediately want to know how to expand your bag.
There is a bag expansion you can buy in the General Store. You’ll need to scroll over a few pages to the tools expansions section. It costs 1000 Tessarae to expand your bag, and it will double your available item slots.
Once you reach a certain point in the story, Adeline will suggest you help improve the General Store. Once you do, the store’s offerings will expand. In addition to more seasonal seeds, you’ll get another backpack expansion. This one costs 2000 Tessarae and adds 10 more item slots.
What to Do with Shiny Beads in Fields of Mistria

One of the skills you can unlock from the dragon statue is the “Currency of Care” skill. Once this is unlocked, you will get Shiny Beads when you feed and otherwise take good care of your livestock. The mysterious item suggests they must have some use, but it’s not immediately obvious what to do with them.
Shiny Beads can be offered to the chicken statue near Hayden’s farm, in increments of 10 and 100. In exchange, the statue will grant you rewards such as recipes and items.
What to Do With Old Tools Once You Upgrade in Fields of Mistria
In games like Stardew Valley, you have one set of tools that get improved over time. Things work a little differently in Fields of Mistria in that you craft or buy an entirely new, upgraded tool whenever you’re ready.
This means you’ll eventually have spare, less impressive versions of tools like the shovel, hoe, pickaxe, etc. Since inventory space is at a premium, players might want to know what to do with them.
We checked, and you can resell them for a bit of Tessarae by popping them into the shipment box just like you would any other item. This is also true for your old kitchen once you unlock and upgrade to a Level 2 kitchen.
How to Repair the Bridge in Fields of Mistria

When you first enter the town in the story’s opening cutscene, you will discover that the bridge out of Mistria has collapsed. This makes it tough for merchants to come in and out of town, and players will immediately wonder when and how we can fix the broken bridge.
Thankfully, Adeline will soon answer that question with a letter requesting you meet her near the broken bridge. Head to the broken bridge to the right of Mistria and you’ll enter a quick cutscene with the villagers. Eventually, they’ll ask for your help gathering materials.
Drop 60 wood and 60 stone in the collection box by the broken bridge. Then, let Adeline know that you’ve brought the materials. This will trigger a cutscene where you’ll see the bridge repair, and you’ll be able to attend the Saturday market the following Saturday.
How to Access the Bathhouse
The town of Mistria wouldn’t be complete without a bathhouse to take a break at. Thankfully, Juniper has players covered for all their hygiene needs. Unfortunately, you’ll need to complete a quick quest to start taking baths.

To get access to the bathhouse and earn 5 free baths, players must complete the Stinky Stamina Potion quest collected from the town quest board.
To complete this, bring Juniper x1 Lilac. These can be located by the chicken statue beside Hayden’s farm.
After giving the lilac to Juniper, players will get put through an unsettling potion test – while the results aren’t what Juniper wanted, she’ll make it up to you with a few baths on the house.
How to Get The Weather Forecast Crystal Ball

Players will get the Crystal Ball for weather forecasts from Juniper the morning after completing the Stinky Stamina Potion quest.
Check the mailbox after going to bed and waking up. Juniper will offer it to you as an extended apology for accidentally sapping all your stamina with the failed potion.
How to Open the Mines in Fields of Mistria
What’s a farming sim without a little mining and monster-fighting? Not to worry – you’ll be able to unlock the closed-off mines and get to mining soon enough.

You will receive a letter from Eiland with the subject “Reopening the Mines.” He asks you to meet him and Errol at the museum to discuss. You learn that Errol has doubts due to some mysterious sound he’s heard coming from the mines but is willing to consider reopening if Mistria’s renown reaches the Stone Rank.
Keep completing villager requests, donating to the museum, and cultivating your farm to increase Renown. Once you hit Stone Rank, you’ll get another letter asking you to meet Errol and Eiland near the entrance of the mines. It’s up and to the left of the museum.

Go there, and you’ll get a cutscene about reopening the mines. This will immediately unlock the ability to explore the depths – but be sure to bring your sword and some food to heal up!
How to Repair the Mill in Fields of Mistria

Next door to the general store, you’ll see a broken-down mill. Like any good newcomer hoping to restore the town’s former glory, you might wonder how to fix it.
When the time is right, you’ll get a request in the mail from Adeline. She asks you to come see her in her office, and when you arrive, you’ll learn that she and some other villagers have plans to fix the mill.
Once again, they need your help. This time, you must collect:
- 150 Wood
- 100 Stone
- 2 Copper Ingots
Bring these items to the box that will appear next to the broken mill. You will also need to save up 1000 Tessarae to donate to the cause.
Once you have deposited all items and have at least 1000t, talk to Adeline to complete the request and fix the mill.
How to Fix the Broken Stairs in the Narrows in Fields of Mistria
As you explore The Narrows, you’ll likely notice an old set of stairs that are too damaged to use. Like any curious gamer, you’re probably wondering if you can unlock access to that area eventually. The answer is yes, you can!
This is one of the easier fixer-upper quests in the game. You will receive a request from Adeline called “Beautification Project.” When you meet her outside of her house to pitch in, a cutscene begins where you and some other villagers help to repair the damage from the earthquake.
Eventually, you and the crew will fix the stairs as part of this cutscene – no material collection required! Once you have access to this area, you’ll be able to harvest Lemons in the Spring.
How to Fix the Bridge at the Beach in Fields of Mistria

When exploring the Beach, you will see the remnants of an old bridge to an island. If you try hopping into the water to cross to the other side, you’ll find that you can’t. So how do you reach the island? By fixing the bridge!
After completing enough previous town restoration projects, you will receive a request from Terithia called “Repair the Beach Bridge.” She asks you to meet her and Adeline near the broken bridge. Once there, you will discuss repairs and the required materials. To fix the bridge, you will need:
- 300 Wood
- 150 Stone
- 50 Fiber
- 1000t
After you place the materials in the box by the Tackle Shop, talk to Terithia to give her the Tessarae. After that, you’ll enjoy a cutscene of the bridge repair. This adds a new area for foraging and fishing.
How to improve the General Store
Eventually, you might start to feel constrained to the types of seeds that the general store offers. Good news! After you have fixed the stairs leading to the peak, you’ll get a letter from Adeline a few days later titled “The General Store”. Meet her in the general store.
You will need:
- 500 stone
- 300 wood
- 5 copper ingots
- 5 iron ingots
- 3000t
Put the items in the drop box, and the town will come together to update the store. This adds new items and new seeds for you to plant.
How to Complete Restocking Mistria’s Food Reserves 2
You’ll receive a letter from Adeline instructing you to to meet her, Reina, and Hayden at Hayden’s farm. Hayden will give you the helpful hint of using the Mill to turn your milk into cheese.
You’ll need to bring the following items to the donation box outside of the Inn:
- 12 chicken eggs
- 10 cheeses
Return to talk to Adeline to complete the quest.
How to Upgrade Hayden’s Barn
You’ll receive a letter from Adeline asking you to meet her at Hayden’s ranch. Completing this upgrade will unlock rabbits, ducks, horses and other animals like capybaras, however upgrading his barn and coop is not a small task, and will require the following items to complete:
- 400 wood
- 500 stone
- 8 iron ingots
Talk to Adeline when you have the needed 4000t to complete the quest.
How to Complete Upgrading the Inn in Fields of Mistria
You’ll receive a letter from Adeline asking you to meet her at the Inn to discuss the town’s next improvement. Meet her at the Inn to talk to Hemlock and Josephine about upgrading the Sleeping Dragon Inn, as it’s the town’s cultural center point.
This is a doozy of an upgrade, as you’ll need the following items:
- 500 stone
- 10 silver ingots
- 10 peat
- 600 wood
- 25 glass
Bring the items to the donation box outside of the Inn to complete the quest.
How to Complete the Stone Refinery in Fields of Mistria
You’ll receive a letter from Adeline when you reach town renown level 55. She will instruct you to meet her at the entry to the mines. Because of yours and the towns hard work, the King of Aldaria is sending you all a fancy Stone Refinery, where you’ll be able to use all that extra stone from the Mines to craft wood, gems, coral, and refined stone.
In order to build the new room in the Mines, you need to collect the following items:
- 200 pieces of wood
- 400 stone
- 5000 T
Talk to Adeline after you’ve gathered all the materials.
After the new room is completed, you can also now teleport from the mine to your farm!
Its a very simple task considering the work it takes to reach level 55. If you’re struggling to reach this level, fulfill a bunch of quests you haven’t cleared or check out our museum guide to get renown from donating items.
