Several old Toy Story video games are coming back later this year, not too long after Woody and the gang make their big-screen return in this summer’s Toy Story 5. Pixar’s groundbreaking animated franchise probably needs no introduction, as plenty of kids like myself have grown up watching the adventures of Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of Andy’s colorful cast of children’s playthings.
Given that the franchise is all about playing, it should come as no surprise that Toy Story has spawned several video games over the years. That isn’t getting into the times that Woody and Buzz have appeared in broader, Disney-centric titles like Kingdom Hearts 3 and Disney’s Dreamlight Valley. While there doesn’t appear to be a Toy Story 5 tie-in game in the works, gamers are still getting a nostalgic blast to go along with the new movie.
Toy Story: Retro Roundup and Toy Story 3 Complete Edition Coming October 15
Just ahead of June 2’s PlayStation State of Play livestream and June 5’s Summer Games Fest event, Digital Eclipse has announced that it is partnering with Disney and Atari to release Toy Story: Retro Roundup, a collection of classic Toy Story games coming to modern systems on October 15, 2026.
This collection includes the original Toy Story for the Sega Genesis/Super Nintendo, Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue for PlayStation/N64, 2001’s Toy Story Racer, and Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, a tie-in for the classic cartoon of the same name. Also included will be the handheld versions of these titles, as well as the 1998 A Bug’s Life game.
All of the games in the Toy Story: Retro Roundup collection are being upgraded for current hardware, and will sport new features like a handy rewind mechanic for backtracking after a mistake, the ability to save and load a game at any point, and cheat codes that unlock new playable characters and extra lives – courtesy of Rex the dinosaur. There will also be a treasure trove of bonus features like concept art and interviews with people like Jim Hanks (the voice actor for Woody whenever his big brother Tom isn’t around).
If that isn’t enough to make you reach for the sky, Digital Eclipse and Atari are also releasing Toy Story 3: Complete Edition, a remaster of the PS3 era classic that retells the story of Toy Story 3 while letting players create their own adventures in the open-world Toy Box Mode. This game was previously locked to seventh-gen consoles (unlike its scaled-down PSP version), so having the chance to play it is a dream come true for fans who missed out the first time.
Toy Story: Retro Roundup and Toy Story 3: Complete Edition will be available as standalone releases and a physical bundle on October 15. Meanwhile, Toy Story 5 is hitting theaters later this month and will see Woody and company face off against the growing wave of technology. Seems pretty relevant these days.
