Things have been relatively quiet when it comes to the previously announced Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake, but a higher-up at developer Saber Interactive might have just let its planned release window slip. The original Knights of the Old Republic, developed by a pre-Mass Effect BioWare, is still hailed by many as one of the best Star Wars games ever made, so there was naturally plenty of excitement when an updated remake was announced way back in 2021.
However, there would soon be a great disturbance in the Force as word of development issues surfaced. Eventually, it was announced that Aspyr, the previously planned developer that has plenty of Star Wars games under its belt, was being removed from KOTOR Remake and Saber Interactive would be restarting the project from the ground up in 2022. Since then, there has been precious little in the way of new information about KOTOR Remake, leaving fans to wonder if the game will ever see the light of day at all.
Rumor: KOTOR Remake May Launch In 2028, New Reveal Coming Soon
This might be changing soon, at least according to a rumor from 100% Star Wars on YouTube. According to him, Saber Chief Business Officer Steve Allison supposedly replied to a Reddit user asking about microtransactions in future Saber games. Allison assured this curious fan that there aren’t any microtransactions in Saber’s upcoming slate of games for 2028… including Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake.
To be fair, Allison simply says that he hopes for KOTOR Remake to be ready in 2028, and 100% adds that this message seems to have originated from LinkedIn. Steve Allison made a similar, more public statement when he took over as Chief Business Officer earlier this month, so it’s possible that the message was accidentally leaked on Reddit. In any case, IGN recently reached out to Saber regarding the message, and seemingly confirmed its authenticity – though the developer naturally downplayed any major, unannounced details like KOTOR Remake‘s release date.
100% Star Wars’ own sources say that Saber was planning to release KOTOR Remake sometime in late 2027, in time for the Star Wars franchise’s 50th anniversary – though this has now reportedly slipped into 2028 to coincide with the original KOTOR‘s 25th anniversary. Overall development is said to be going “extremely well,” which is certainly welcome news after all the upheaval and radio silence.
If things keep going as well as 100% Star Wars claims, then KOTOR Remake could be getting a brand-new reveal sometime later this year. Of course, this is all unconfirmed accounts and leaked information, but if it is accurate, then Star Wars gaming fans might have a lot to look forward to in the next few years.
Still here? Good.
