Name a more iconic duo than a cozy game and a good audiobook. Go ahead, I’ll wait. I love farming and management sims, but they’re inherently pretty grindy. And that makes them ideal for playing while listening to a good podcast or audiobook. Those repetitive tasks are fun, but they don’t require a lot of focus. So, I like to combine my two big loves of reading and cozy games.
While playing Moonlight Peaks, I found myself longing for books with similar vibes. Luckily, I’ve read plenty of books that fit solidly into the cozy-yet-spooky category. After all, I’m too much of a chicken for full-on horror, but I’ve always loved vampires and witches. Hence, cozy spooky vibes. So if you, too, want to listen to something that’s perfectly on-theme while playing Moonlight Peaks, I’ve got your recommendations right here.

An Ancient Witch’s Guide to Modern Dating by Cecelia Edward

Price: $16.40 or One Audible Credit on Amazon
Are you playing Moonlight Peaks primarily for the romance options? Well, I’ve got a witchy time-travel novel for you. An Ancient Witch’s Guide to Modern Dating delivers pretty much exactly what’s on the tin. A witch finds herself suddenly transported to the present day, where her quest for a partner meets the wonders (and horrors) of Tinder.
This book is a delightful, funny story that is just the right amount of ridiculous. While it’s sadly lacking in vampires, it does deliver on witches, magic, and time travel. So I think it’s a pretty solid audiobook to listen to while playing a supernatural farming sim like Moonlight Peaks.
Happy Medium by Sarah Adler

Price: $17.72 or One Audible Credit on Amazon
Do you wish you could romance the ghosts of Moonlight Peaks, or at least become better friends with them? Well, I’ve got the slightly supernatural contemporary romance novel for you! Happy Medium is the story of what happens when a con woman who pretends to see ghosts actually encounters a real one. And did I mention the majority of the book takes place on a working farm? Yeah, it’s basically made to listen to while playing a supernatural farming sim.
Sarah Adler is one of my personal favorite contemporary romance authors, and she’s in full form with Happy Medium. It’s got a slightly supernatural element, but at its core, it’s just a plain swoonworthy contemporary romance. Again, set on a farm. And the audio is narrated by Mara Wilson, aka Matilda herself. I’ve basically convinced myself to grab this on audio to reread while playing the game, if I’m honest.
Payback’s a Witch by Lana Harper

Price: $15.75 or One Audible Credit on Amazon
A magical town coming together for a series of big events? Feels like a farming sim plot if I ever heard one. Payback’s a Witch is just the beginning of Lana Harper’s Witches of Thisle Grove series, so it’s a gift that keeps on giving if you enjoy the first book. Personally, book one is my favorite by a pretty wide margin. It follows Emmy Harlow as she returns to her magical hometown for the first time in years, only to get swept up in the town’s big spellcasting tournament in ways she didn’t expect.
Payback’s a Witch is a sapphic romance with a supernatural twist. If you’ve been dying to romance Sabrina, you’re going to love this book’s love interest, Talia Avramov. This one’s just plain fun, and it’s also over 10 hours long, so you’ll get through a season or two while you listen.
My Roommate is a Vampire by Jenna Levine

Price: $15.75 or One Audible Credit on Amazon
Oh, how I love this series. These books are funny and romantic and just the slightest bit spooky. I love how Levine really leans into the ridiculousness of an ancient vampire trying to navigate modern life. My Roommate is a Vampire is the first book in the series, and it’s excellent on audio. I would know, because that’s how I read and fell in love with it.
My Roommate is a Vampire follows Cassie, an art teacher who comes across a suspiciously promising ad for a new place to live. She quickly realizes it’s because the eccentric owner of the home is weirdly behind the times. Almost as if he’s much older than he appears. But that couldn’t be right… could it?
