The vast world of Neverwinter has finally touched the stars in the past two modules, and Module 28: Adventures in Wildspace sets to finish the storyline of Module 27: Spelljammer in an epic conclusion.
Neverwinter, a Dungeons & Dragons-inspired MMORPG is rapidly approaching its 30th module – and its recent adventures have introduced the concept of space travel from the Spelljammer sourcebooks of the tabletop game. Spelljammer is one of my all-time favorite settings, combining the joys of science fiction with the magic of fantasy in a way that is entirely unique. Players won’t find the typical Enterprise-like spaceships in this universe but fly from place to place in ships resembling seafaring vessels. The unique twist is very Treasure Planet and the perfect way to spice up gameplay in Neverwinter.
New Trouble Lurks In Neverwinter’s Wildspace

Module 28: Adventures in Wildspace takes up where Neverwinter‘s Module 27 left off, with players signing on to help the newly rescued Princess Xedalli in creating an alliance with the Vocath. In our preview, we had control of a level 20 Bard who dealt serious damage to enemies, and this was needed as there are numerous combat requirements to convince Vocath to partner with the princess.
Combat while in Wildspace is a blast. Jumping propels the player’s character high into the air, and the nebulous backdrop of alien skies creates a compelling and unique setting for battles and exploration. The only problem I bumped into was locating all the enemies that needed to be taken down, as sometimes they were lurking behind ships or in awkward spots for a fight.
I did locate some floating pineapples after one fight, which I found a delightful touch to the space setting. The crate that had held the fruit was tipped over. While a few remained on the platform, several others had rolled off, spinning lazily in space just out of reach.
Exploration Is Encouraged

While there is a story to follow in Neverwinter’s Module 28: Adventures in Wildspace, that doesn’t mean players have to do it all at once. One of my favorite things about the Spelljammer setting is it encourages exploration. New systems including Doomspace and Xaryxispace are filled with secrets, adventures, and combat opportunities.
Despite the Princess needing my assistance, I couldn’t resist the pull of adventure after starting the initial interactions with Vocath and found myself back about our Spelljammer ship setting a course for unknown locations. I could explore Wildspace for hours. The ability to travel from place to place makes this one of my all-time favorite modules, and the streamlining of the Songblade Bard made combat even more delightful than when playing my own character on my primary account. I am very excited to see the Songblade improvements in my regular playthrough, as it seems the Class choice is much sturdier in battle after being revamped.
Adventures in Wildspace Is Perfect For Party Play
While working through the preview on my own allowed me the chance to explore at my own pace, I found myself missing my Neverwinter party frequently when working through Adventures in Wild Space. This module has some intense combat. Enemies come in hordes, the new Imperial Citadel dungeon is very hard, and having another player to cover my back would have been helpful.
Players ready to dive back into Neverwinter should consider setting up party play for this module. It will create a smoother combat experience, and help ease the frustrations of restarting combat if you are knocked out. Additionally, make sure your character is well-equipped with items, abilities, and gear. Once out in the vast expanse of Wildspace, it can be difficult to find places to stock back up.
Preview Verdict
As always, Neverwinter delivers nothing but peak adventure with polished gameplay for fans to enjoy in Module 28: Adventures in Wildspace. Those who enjoyed Spelljammer are in for a treat, and the conclusion of the two-part narrative is a delight to work through.
I don’t know if I’ll ever get enough of my time in Wildspace, and I hope the Neverwinter team creates additional modules for this zone in the future. Adventures in Wildspace perfectly blends the delights of science fiction with D&D’s high fantasy, and my appetite for this stunning combination will never be satiated.
