There’s been a great disturbance in the Force ever since Star Wars Eclipse was announced way back in 2021, and a new report claims that the Quantic Dream-led project could be cancelled outright. There still isn’t a lot known about Star Wars Eclipse, except that it would be set during the High Republic era (around 500 years before the events of Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope), and that it would continue Quantic Dream’s ethos of letting players shape the game’s plot through narrative choices.
As promising as this sounds, Star Wars Eclipse has since fallen into a drought of official news developments, and there has yet to be any sort of release window for the game. Not helping matters are rumors of development issues over at Qunatic Dream, with some sources even saying that parent company NetEase is considering selling the studio outright if things don’t improve.
Quantic Dreams Layoff Plans Could Lead To Star Wars Eclipse Getting Shelved
Another bump in the road for Star Wars Eclipse recently surfaced in the form of a walkout outside of Quantic Dream’s Paris HQ, as reported on by VGC. This strike was triggered by Quantic’s reported plans to let go of around 115 workers following the cancelled launch of Spellcasters Chronicles, an online multiplayer game that was shut down on June 19. Quantic also reportedly started an “internal reorganization” not too long after this, which included the planned layoffs.

Some of the striking workers told French gaming website GameKult that part of their protest includes saving Star Wars Eclipse, which they say can’t get finished without the nearly 115 workers supposedly getting cut from Quantic Dream. The developer is said to have initiated overtime on Star Wars Eclipse after announcing the layoffs, and a Lucasfilm Games delegation reportedly visited the studio for a progress update around the time of the strike.
Both this and the relative lack of positive development updates are bad omens for Star Wars Eclipse, which has already been met with skepticism over past Quantic Dreams controversies. In the meantime, fans can look forward to returning to the Galaxy Far, Far Away in upcoming games like Star Wars: Galactic Racer, which is set to launch on October 6.
