The upcoming LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight contains several references to past media starring DC’s Caped Crusader, including a touching tribute to the late Kevin Conroy. Conroy famously lent his voice to Bruce Wayne and his crime-fighting alter ego in the seminal Batman: The Animated Series back in the 90s, and went on to continue playing the hero in the connected DC Animated Universe shows and numerous video games. This includes the Batman: Arkham series and 2024’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, as well as the first two Injustice games.
Thanks to his gravelly and commanding tone and deep understanding of the character, Kevin Conroy is considered by many fans to be the definitive Batman in any media, and they were naturally saddened to hear news of his passing from intestinal cancer in the fall of 2022. His final performances as Batman, the aforementioned Suicide Squad game, and the 2024 animated film Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Three, were dedicated to his memory.

Now LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will contain its own homage to Kevin Conroy, as pointed out by LEGO fan Ashnflash on Twitter. Within the game’s plastic version of Gotham City stands a billboard promoting a radio show titled “After Hours With Conroy,” with a subtitle calling the host “The Voice Of Gotham’s Night.” “Night,” of course, being a play on “Knight,” making this a great nod to the man who served as the definitive voice of Gotham’s top protector to generations of fans.
As a whole, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is being made as a love letter to the Batman franchise’s rich history, drawing influence from the many movies, comics, games, and yes, cartoons that have captivated audiences over the years. As such, the “After Hours With Conroy” billboard is far from the only reference to Batman: The Animated Series, with another great example being a cutscene that recreates the show’s iconic opening sequence.
Kevin Conroy’s performances in Batman: The Animated Series and countless other projects have helped the character endure and find new generations of fans (myself included), and it is only fitting for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight to honor him for his work as the voice of Gotham’s Knight. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will launch on May 22 for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S systems. A release date for last-gen consoles and the Nintendo Switch 2 hasn’t been announced yet.
