We finally have a release date for Halo: Campaign Evolved, the upcoming remake of the original Halo game that put Xbox on the map back in 2001. It was first announced in October 2025 as one of the first projects by the newly rebranded Halo Studios, and it will be among the first Halo games to be built in Unreal Engine 5 rather than the proprietary Slipspace Engine that was used for Halo Infinite.
Halo: Campaign Evolved will also make history by being the first Halo title to be available on PlayStation consoles, a major twist for sure, considering this is one of, if not the defining franchise for the Xbox brand. Halo: Campaign Evolved will be a good jumping-on point for new PS5 players, too, as it retells the story of the original Halo: Combat Evolved. For the uninitiated, Halo stars the armored super-soldier Master Chief, who is tasked with preventing the evil Covenant from unlocking the secrets of an ancient weapon called the Halo.
Halo: Campaign Evolved Release Date
During the recent Xbox Games Showcase 2026 livestream, viewers were greeted with a new trailer for Halo: Campaign Evolved, which also revealed that the game will be released on July 28, 2026. Like many of Xbox’s recent triple-A blockbusters, Halo: Campaign Evolved will be available on Xbox Game Pass on Day One, so subscribers will be able to jump into the battle as soon as possible.
This battle will also feature three new playable missions that take place before the main Halo: Combat Evolved story, with Master Chief being accompanied by Sgt. Avery Johnson. The good sarge provides narration during the Halo: Campaign Evolved trailer, which highlights the game’s enhanced graphics as the two battle-hardened soldiers fight their way through hordes of Covenant as part of Operation: METEORITE.
Rumor has it that Halo: Campaign Evolved is just the first in a trilogy of Halo remakes, and Halo Studios is reportedly already working on the next mainline entry. In the meantime, Halo: Campaign Evolved is set to reintroduce gamers to Master Chief, Cortana, and all those awesome sci-fi weapons and vehicles when the game launches in full next month. Fans can already preorder the game on the official Xbox and Steam websites, and those who do will be able to try it out in early access on July 23.
