My Town’s Local Cryptid Has Been Immortalized By World of Warcraft

It’s been a weird week for us local Seattleites. The weather has been oddly cool and calm for July, we’ve dodged most of the smoke currently coating the West Coast, and a local raccoon by the name of “Jimothy” was propelled into god-like viral stardom overnight. Now, that same funny little guy has received some star treatment from Blizzard, with his likeness painted in WoW‘s signature art style.

I am new to Seattle. My family and I moved here a year ago, to the week. In our time here, we’ve learned some very important things. The Seattle Seahawks are very important, beach walks are a weekly requirement, and the raccoons are cooler than Bigfoot.

My first interactions with Seattle Raccoons started less than two weeks after we moved in, when I began a year-long battle with the furry, nosy neighbor who lives in the tree behind my townhouse. He sneaks out at night and gets into our trash, specifically set on any potato peels we aren’t cautious enough to properly hide. However, my large, grumpy trash goblin doesn’t have anything on Jimothy.

Jimothy Deserves a WoW In-Game Companion

In a social media post shared to the official World of Warcraft Twitter account, Blizzard has shared an image of Jimothy in the iconic WoW style. His short little body and stubby tail are perfectly captured in the game’s whimsy, making him look even more like a cryptid.

For those who aren’t up on the news about this strange raccoon, he appeared on social media less than a week ago in a video, where another Seattle resident caught him scampering about. Jimothy has a rare condition that caused him to grow with a short spine. Because of this, his body is very compact, and his legs look hilariously long. Despite looking like something from a video game or fairytale, his face and markings look just like any other raccoon’s.

Jimothy is also thriving and moves around the world in his own unique way. He has sparked a widespread wave of love from those who have seen his videos, reminding everyone to celebrate their difference and be the best magical creatures we can be.

I have never been prouder to live in Seattle than I am at this moment. Watching as Jimothy murals pop up around town and his videos cycle on televisions all over town has been a delightful and lighthearted break from many of the other things currently dominating our world at the moment. Jimothy is making everyone smile, and knowing he lives just a few blocks away makes my days feel that much more special.

While Jimothy hasn’t been released as an official pet in World of Warcraft, fans are rallying, begging Blizzard to create a companion that they can add to their own games. If this were to happen, Jimothy would have the chance to add just a little more happiness to additional communities and give fans the chance to feel closer to a little raccoon who has brought the world a bit closer together.
