If you love games and books, chances are, you’ve tried your hand at a visual novel or two. These games are dialogue-heavy, narrative-driven experiences that combine gaming mechanics with a heartfelt story. Coffee Talk is one of the biggest names in the space, inspiring a whole subgenre of visual novels where you serve customers from behind a counter. We at Bonus Action are big fans of these games, including Tavern Talk and, of course, the Coffee Talk series. I’m always on the lookout for new twists on this concept, because I just love a gamified story. So, when I saw the newly announced Moonlight Apothecary, my interest was immediately piqued.
Moonlight Apothecary is an upcoming visual novel from indie developer tinymuse studio. I first encountered their work via the demo for another one of their games in progress, Cauldron Tale. I fell in love with this witchy farming sim when I tried the demo, and I’m not mad to see another title from this developer on a similar magical theme. Moonlight Apothecary basically looks like a potion-brewing spin on the winning formula from Coffee Talk, and I can’t wait to see more from this one.
Moonlight Apothecary Lets You Brew Up Potions to Shape the Story

As the game’s name suggests, players in Moonlight Apothecary will run a nightly potion shop. Customers stop by hoping to find the perfect potion for what ails them. They’ll tell you their story, and it’s up to you to shape what happens next via dialogue choices and the unique concoctions you serve up. With adorable pixel art, the game features a potion-brewing mini-game that serves as the foundation for its gameplay loop. Moonlight Apothecary also incorporates an astronomy mini-game for even more magic, letting you unlock the secrets of the skies as you shape the stories of your customers.
Along with making dialogue choices and brewing potions, you’ll be able to unlock decorations to change up your space. The game also comes with an original, cozy lo-fi soundtrack to add to the cozy vibes. To get a sense of what Moonlight Apothecary has to offer, you can check out the gameplay trailer below:
tinymuse is currently running a playtest for Moonlight Apothecary. You can sign up on Steam to be among the first to check out the game and offer feedback to the developers, or add the game to your wishlist to make sure it stays on your radar. The visual novel is currently expected to release in Q1 of 2027 for PC via Steam. From the looks of it, it’s a perfect fit for fans of Coffee Talk and all things magical.
