the plucky squire steam deck
Developer All Possible Futures has confirmed that its upcoming title, The Plucky Squire, is now verified for Steam Deck. The game is already heading to most major platforms, including the Nintendo Switch, but this additional compatibility will make it way more approachable to a host of new potential players.
Fans, both of the Steam Deck and The Plucky Squire, are ecstatic about the news. The comments on Twitter are quite something to behold and mainly consist of those eager to play the game losing their minds. User GamesCage sums it up beautifully with their comment.”I WANT IT NOW.”
The Plucky Squire, anywhere, anytime
Considering that The Plucky Squire was already set to be released on the Nintendo Switch, a platform known for its portability, it might seem surprising that people are excited for it to come to the Steam Deck.
The thing is, the Steam Deck offers an advantage that the Nintendo Switch simply can’t compete with – Steam Achievements. Not everyone is into them, but Achievements on Steam or Xbox and trophies on PlayStation enhance the experience of playing a game.
These tiny milestones for various actions, activities, or hundreds of hours spent looking for potatoes in games are what some players live for.
I know that I’ve picked Steam Deck over Nintendo Switch many times because I’ll add Achievements by playing a game on Valve’s handheld. In fact, Core Keeper is a really recent example of that. Even though the game will likely run exactly the same on both platforms, the Steam Deck is usually superior to those who own one.
I think the fact that this announcement is solely responsible for the cutest Gabe Newell gif on Twitter is the perfect way to show how much fans adore their Steam Decks.
The concept of The Plucky Squire lends itself so well to a handheld device. Fans play as Jot, a hero on a quest to retrieve a magical bow. He can hop through portals to traverse between his storybook, a 2D realm, and the real world, a 3D realm.
The game mixes puzzling, platforming, archery, and so much more in a fairly compact space that grows to be so much bigger thanks to the traversal through these 2D and 3D views. It’s out on September 17, 2024, and a game worth checking out regardless of what platform you plan on playing it.
