Recently, Weta Workshop announced an exciting look at Tales of the Shire with a special Hobbit Day showcase. The showcase will give us a deeper look into the game, with peeks into gameplay mechanics and in-game locations.
Many assumed we’d also learn about the game’s official release date in this showcase, which has been loosely “Holiday 2024” for a while now. Today, cozy gaming fans with Lord of the Rings leanings got more news about the game, but this time, it wasn’t so joyful, as Tales of the Shire has been hit with a delay.
Weta Workshop Releases Statement About Tales of the Shire Release Date Delay
Via the TalesoftheShire account on X (formerly Twitter), Weta gave players some disappointing news about our lists for Santa this year.
The statement informs fans that the release date has been pushed back to “early 2025.”
Weta Workshop says the delay comes as part of their dedication to truly capturing the magic of the Shire. “When a new Hobbit steps into Bywater for the very first time, we want that moment to be everything you’re hoping for,” the statement says.
The statement goes on to clarify that the Hobbit Day Showcase on September 22 is still moving forward. We will get our look into the Tales of the Shire and more information about the new release date during the live stream.
While it’s always disappointing to wait longer for a game, the overwhelming fan response to the news has been supportive.
“Take the time you need! hobbits are patient creatures,” says one response. Most replies are a similar mix of thanking the devs for taking the time the game needs and being slightly disappointed for a longer wait.
This makes us all the more interested in what we’ll see during the September 22 showcase, given how little of the game we’ve seen so far. Hopefully, the longer development time means the Shire really will be everything we hoped for when we finally sit down to our first Second Breakfast together.
