Microsoft Shuts Down Studio Behind Hi-Fi Rush One Year After Groundbreaking Success

In a time of devastating studio closures, the developers behind Hi-Fi Rush, Tango Gameworks, have announced they will be shuttering permanently, despite multiple hit titles.

The news comes after Tango Gameworks’ Hi-Fi Rush won the BAFTA Games Award for Animation in 2024. Unfortunately, this isn’t the only studio under Bethesda Games to meet a similar fate.

Tango Gameworks Shutters Despite Success & Popularity

It was announced on Twitter/X on May 7, 2024, that Tango Gameworks will close down. The post gives no details on the reason for the closure, but states that “previous titles will remain available and playable everywhere they are today.”

Microsoft Shuts Down Several Bethesda Games Studios In Effort To “Reprioritize Resources”

Microsoft has announced the closure of multiple developers under Bethesda Studios. Tango Gameworks, along with Arkane Austin and Alpha Dog Games, did not make the cut following the Microsoft merger.

Microsoft is aiming to consolidate its resources and reprioritize its titles. IGN reported that the Microsoft Team will be closing down multiple developers while others, such as Roundhouse Games, will combine with ZeniMax Online Studios. The full list of affected developers can be found below.

• Arkane Austin – closing with some members joining other studios in Bethesda
• Alpha Dog Studios – closing
• Tango Gameworks – closing
• Roundhouse Games – joining ZeniMax Online Studios (ZOS)

Unfortunately for fans of titles like Hi-Fi Rush, the closures indicate no further content for the games will be made available. However, the creators from these teams will likely take on new projects at other studios, hopefully adding their flare and creative vision to new games players can enjoy.

Fans of Tango Gameworks can show their support for the team by responding in the comments of the Twitter post announcing the closure, or by purchasing the playing the games created by the studio. Hopefully, this won’t be the end of the fantastic work seen in the games under the label.
