Digital Artists all over the world struggled with affordability for decades. The market for digital drawing tablets and tools has been saturated with high-cost options that make getting a foot in the door extremely difficult. However, XPPen is working to change this, providing high-quality tools at a price that is shockingly reasonable.
After reviewing the Magic Drawing Pad earlier this year, and currently working hands-on with the Artist Pro 19 (Gen 2) in one of the most in-depth drawing tablet reviews of my career, I was delighted to have the opportunity to interview Amy Yuan, the Marketing Director at XPPen, who has given us an inside look at their goals as a drawing tablet manufacturer.
Affordibility, Reliability, and An Excellent Drawing Experience

Affordability has been a major deterrent for young artists in past decades. How is XPPen working to create a high-quality product that is more affordable?
Amy Yuan: “At XPPen, we are dedicated to inspiring artists worldwide by providing high-quality, affordable art tools. Our commitment to innovation is evident in products like the X3 Pro Smart Chip, which introduced the industry’s first 16k pressure levels. This advancement delivers a more responsive and detailed creative experience for artists. Our diverse product line caters to creators at all stages, from entry-level drawing tablets to professional-grade displays. Guided by a user-centered philosophy, we aim to empower artists to express themselves freely and authentically.“
What is one of the biggest hurdles when introducing XPPen to Wacom users? How do you navigate brand loyalty on products most people can’t afford?
Amy: “XPPen values building strong relationships with creators and enhancing communication and brand trust. Our commitment lies in fostering loyalty through the delivery of premium products, services, and experiences, alongside continuous innovation and improvement. Social media serves as a vital platform for us to effectively engage with our users and showcase our brand. We are proud to have a community of over 1.5 million followers across global social media platforms, where we cultivate a vibrant artistic environment. Additionally, we value every opportunity for face-to-face interaction, confidently demonstrating the capabilities of XPPen products.
We actively participate in global technology and animation events and sponsor art awards to enhance our engagement with users worldwide. Additionally, we’ve organized a City Pop-up-themed fan surprise day, enabling us to connect with art enthusiasts globally (check out XPPen TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@xppen)
We also pursue cross-industry collaborations and engage in marketing and product partnerships with popular games and classic comic IPs, ensuring our products and brand align closely with users’ interests and preferences. Last year’s co-branding with The Little Prince and the drawing competition with HoYoFair (a platform for global players and creators to engage and share their artistic endeavors) in April 2024 received an excellent response. This success led to further collaboration between XPPen and HoYoFair, culminating in the co-organization of the Fan Art Convention in San Diego in July. These initiatives highlight our commitment to promoting the development of art.
Our goal is more than delivering exceptional products, it’s about building strong connections with art enthusiasts, fostering trust and recognition of XPPen. This brand loyalty and companionship drive our continuous development and guide our pursuit of excellence in product development.“

When creating XPPen products, what is the biggest goal for the team? How does that impact development?
Amy: “Our brand concept is user-centric, with XPPen striving to meet the needs of creators. Our industrial design philosophy, ‘One Paper,’ seeks to balance technology, art, and humanistic care. Inspired by the softness and natural drape of real drawing paper, the ‘One Paper’ design aims to replicate a paper-like drawing experience on our displays. We’ve incorporated ergonomic enhancements to provide the comfort of real paper. By adhering to this design philosophy, many of our products, such as the X3 Roller Stylus and Deco Pro series, have received the Red Dot Design Award.
We are committed to innovation and achieving technological breakthroughs to address user needs and lead the industry. XPPen aspires to be more than just a manufacturer of digital art tools, we aim to be a partner to our consumers, fostering deeper emotional connections and care. To achieve this, we actively listen to consumer needs, understand their creative processes, and provide professional, reliable tools for artists worldwide through innovative technology and exceptional user experiences.
In January, we introduced the Magic Drawing Pad, the industry’s first mobile drawing tablet. Our market insights allowed us to anticipate the trend toward “mobile creation.” Beyond our traditional drawing tablets and displays, we’ve expanded our innovative product line by integrating handwriting input technology into Android all-in-one portable tablets, enabling a seamless mobile creation experience. This product not only meets portability needs but also delivers professional-grade performance. Equipped with XPPen’s proprietary X3 Pro chip, it offers industry-first 16k pressure levels, providing users with a remarkably smooth and precise drawing experience.
These demonstrate our strategic positioning and commitment to continuous innovation in product design and functionality. We consistently optimize the user experience, addressing various user needs and establishing ourselves as an indispensable partner in their creative journey.“
XPPen is pioneering a future where more people will have access to digital drawing, what are you most excited to see as this change continues?
Amy: “I’m pleased to see that more art enthusiasts are embracing digital art, and sharing the creative journey with XPPen. Our commitment to a user-centric brand philosophy supports the growth of the art industry. We support new generations of artists by sponsoring prestigious international competitions and youth support programs.
We are eager to witness the ongoing expansion and diversification of the digital creation ecosystem, and we anticipate digital drawing becoming increasingly popular. Our introduction of the “professional mobile creation tablet,” the Magic Drawing Pad, exemplifies our innovative transformation of lifestyle by bringing professional creation technology to mobility. This product is designed to be inclusive and accessible, empowering everyone to become a creator.
We strive for our products to benefit both professionals and hobbyists, encouraging fearless exploration and self-expression. Our focus is on popularizing digital drawing tools through innovation, fostering global collaboration, and aspiring to strengthen our brand’s influence globally. XPPen aims to be a trusted partner for creators, providing a platform for artistic communication and supporting their artistic dreams.“

What XPPen tablet would you recommend for a first-time digital artist?
Amy: “For those new to digital art, I recommend selecting a drawing tablet or display that aligns with your personal needs. That’s one of the reasons why XPPen offers a diverse product line, catering to both entry-level and professional creators. Our Deco series is ideal for beginners, combining cost-effectiveness with ease of use. For users at the primary stage of digital drawing seeking a more immersive experience, the Artist series drawing displays are an excellent choice. The Artist Pro series offers advanced performance tailored for professional needs, along with a range of other series for users to explore. Products are available in various sizes, allowing users to consider factors such as performance, portability, workspace, and price to make informed decisions.“
What is your favorite XPPen tablet currently on the market?
Amy: “Our diverse product lines are tailored to meet the creative needs of various user groups at different stages. We offer professional large-screen products, portable screens and tablets, and mobile all-in-one solutions. This year, the X3 Pro series and Magic Drawing Pad have been widely acclaimed and recommended.
The drawing display serves as an additional monitor for PCs, allowing users to draw directly on the display, offering an intuitive creative experience. It has become the preferred tool for many creators. This year, we introduced a new category, the Drawing Pad, with the Magic Drawing Pad as our inaugural product. Its innovative “mobile creation” concept and unparalleled features have been well-received by consumers, quickly becoming one of XPPen’s best-selling products.
Additionally, XPPen is the industry’s first to achieve 16K pen pressure levels powered by the self-developed X3 Pro chips. Product series equipped with X3 Pro chips, such as Deco Pro (Gen 2), Artist Pro 16 (Gen 2), and Artist Pro 14 (Gen 2), have been highly acclaimed by users for providing a refined, smooth, and exceptional drawing and writing experience.
Our commitment to diversity continues to satisfy our customers. On August 26, we introduced the Artist Pro 19 (Gen 2), our first 19-inch drawing screen. This new size delivers a professional creative experience while remaining portable. It features 4K ultra-clear resolution and has achieved Calman Verified, ensuring ultimate color performance.“
What is one thing you feel the digital art and tablet-using market needs to consider moving forward?
Amy: “As the industry evolves, it’s crucial to deeply understand and meet user needs while supporting their creativity. With technological advancements leading to increasingly complex devices, brands must balance functionality and unique selling points with genuine value and user-centric design. At XPPen, we aim to set a standard by fostering industry growth through practical initiatives. We focus on delivering an intuitive user experience, designs aligned with creative workflows, and robust user support.
We believe that future development must focus on the diversity of application scenarios, such as integrating virtual display technologies like AR and VR. Adapting these technologies across various industries beyond digital art, including video production, online education, and digital signing is important. Additionally, software compatibility is crucial to ensure our devices support a wide range of creative software, enhancing the user experience. Through these efforts, we are committed to providing diverse and comprehensive digital art tools that support creativity and innovation.”

What are the benefits of diversifying tablet brands and creating a more competitive market? What are some of the cons?
Amy: “Brand diversification in the digital drawing tablet market drives innovation and strengthens brand influence. It encourages the development of new technologies and optimizes product performance, enhancing trust and communication between users and brands. Additionally, a competitive market ensures more reasonable pricing, allowing consumers access to high-quality products at affordable rates. Diversified options cater to varied user needs across different scenarios, improving market education and increasing consumer awareness of product features and applications.
However, these developments also present challenges, such as information overload, making it difficult for consumers to make informed decisions. Market saturation can lead to fierce competition, inconsistent product quality, and challenges in building brand loyalty. Excessive saturation may trigger ‘price wars’, hindering innovation. Overall, more competition is usually a good thing, offering consumers more choices. From a brand perspective, we must focus on clear, effective marketing and exceptional customer service while ensuring high-quality products to meet these challenges.“
What is your favorite part of your work at XPPen and why?
Amy: “I’m thrilled to share that my favorite part of working at XPPen is seeing our products and brand being recognized by users. It’s amazing to witness more people falling in love with art creation. The challenges and successes in my role keep me excited for the future. Whenever our new products are well-received, or I read feedback about how we’ve improved someone’s creative experience, it fills me with pride and satisfaction.
In addition, at XPPen, our team organization and management really allow us to perform our duties effectively while working towards a unified goal. We focus on user experience, aiming to provide the ultimate experience. By staying attuned to industry trends and market demands, we ensure our products align perfectly with what users need. The sense of accomplishment comes not only from our continuous innovation but also from truly meeting user needs and helping them realize their artistic dreams.”
XPPen continues to create and release drawing tablets that offer unique, competitive, and groundbreaking specs for digital artists. From the powerful 4k resolution of the Artist Pro 19″ Gen 2 to the 16k+ pressure sensitivity and customization options of the styli.
It is extremely exciting to see such powerful options for digital art in a price range that many can reasonably afford or save up for. As someone who has fallen in love with XPPen over the past year, I can genuinely say I can’t wait to see what they do next.
