After having the chance to go hands-on with Spray Paint Simulator during Pax West 2024, I have been dying for the chance to pick up a sprayer and get busy. Thanks to the new demo out during Steam Next Fest, I am finally getting the painting fix I’ve been craving.
If you are a fan of Powerwash Simulator or House Flipper 2, there is a demo you absolutely must try while it is active during Steam Next Fest. From February 24 through March 3, players can jump in and test out the new multiplayer features in free play, a fresh level on career mode, and enjoy slapping vibrant paint on everything in a space.
Spray Paint Simulator is Even Smoother Than Before

The first thing that I immediately noticed when jumping into the demo for Spray Paint Simulator this time around, was the optimization. Paint goes on smoother, in thicker coats, for better application sensations. The colors are vibrant and glossy, which I could especially notice while painting the car in career mode.
When I first played the demo last fall, it took a lot of work to cover an area, with the paint spray struggling to coat unless I went over each spot multiple times. Now, the spray applies a satisfying amount of paint, creating the hunger to keep slapping it on everything close by.
Lighting Is Still a Struggle

One area that I think could still use some polish is in the lighting. While the first level of career mode is outside with plenty of natural light to shine on every spot of the car, Tony’s Kitchen is a whole different monster. It is very difficult to see where you are sticking the paint on the undersides of cabinets. I almost wished I had a flashlight tool to help.
With the current lighting system, players are very reliant on the spot locator to see what they have missed. Additionally, even with the paint applied, you can’t really see all your hard work if its on a baseboard or hidden in a corner.
It would be awesome to see these areas more visible, so players can enjoy the process and admire their finished work.
Splatter Your Own Outfit

While not in the current demo build, one very cool new mechanic we had the chance to look at was the outfit customization for free play. In this space, players can use their sprayer to coat their outfit in any colors they like.
That outfit can then be worn when playing with friends. This is particularly fun for those who want to recreate a pride flag, or just rock some obnoxious combinations while they soak the town in paint.
Spray Paint Simulator is an absolute must for anyone who enjoys simulation games. It is satisfying and colorful while offering a bit of something different to a genre that typical leans into cleaning things up instead of making a bit of a mess.
Currently, Spray Paint Simulator is speculating a 2025 release, and I absolutely cannot wait to see what the full game has in store for players. I know it is one I will lose dozens of hours to.
