In a dramatic change of tone from Adventures in Wildspace, Neverwinter‘s newest Module, Mountain of Flame sees fans back in the Sword Coast on a revisit to a familiar location.
The Mountain of Flame module takes place in and around Mount Hotenow, an adventure zone originally used at launch in 2013. The area has been lovingly updated, featuring familiar faces, new adventures, and a glowing atmosphere sure to raise the hair on players’ arms.
Tumbling Lava Illuminates A Desolate Environment

As soon as players accept the new quest line for Mountain of Flame, they will be able to travel to the Mount Hotenow adventure zone. This will plunge adventurers into a series of molten-hot tunnels filled with enemies.
After battling for freedom, the party will find themselves standing in the barren, volcanic landscape the story takes place in. This adventure zone is aglow with lava and heavily dotted with enemies. It has been overhauled from the original design, both in graphical quality and layout. Because of this, long-time Neverwinter fans will want to explore to get reacquainted with all the important locations.
Gommoth’s Monsters Lurk Across Mount Hotenow

Module 29: Mountain of Flame will challenge players to hunt down Gommoth, whose dangerous minions are now running loose across the zone. Be sure to bring plenty of healing potions before heading into the area, as the fights are challenging, and will test even the most skilled players.
Fans will have the opportunity to help multiple groups of NPCs, as well as challenge Gommoth’s lieutenants, which spawn around the zone. These powerful encounters are a difficult challenge, and shouldn’t be taken on alone. Team up with others in the zone, or bring a party of well-equipped friends to take these monsters down.
An Unvaulted Dungeon Awaits – Lair of the Mad Dragon

In our preview of Module 29: Mountain of Flame, we didn’t have the opportunity to take on the Unvaulted Dungeon: Lair of the Mad Dragon. However, the classic dungeon is one players won’t want to miss.
In an attempt to help the Green Dragon Chartilifax, who has been convinced to guard the Hex Locus by Ashmadi cultist Rohini, players must battle through the lair and attempt to retrieve the artifact.
Sporting three difficulty levels: Normal, Advanced, and Master, players have the chance to battle for rewards. The Master challenge offers the best loot, but every tier offers different prizes to collect. Because of this, be sure to challenge each rating to make the most of the dungeon’s offerings.
A Stunning Adventure That Brings Classic Experiences to New and Longtime Players
Mountain of Flame is a unique and exciting module, refreshing an iconic part of the game’s original content for current audiences. In our preview, it was wonderful to explore the darkened landscape and learn about the adventure zone.
One of my favorite facts about Mount Hotenow was that it used to be a lush forest before the eruption. Now, the volcanic aqueducts are what keep areas of the Sword Coast unusually warm, like iconic Neverwinter.
Playing through modules like these, while not as modern as Adventures in Wildspace, reminds players of how much time, development, and energy has gone into expanding Neverwinter‘s expanse of gameplay. As someone who began playing long after the game’s launch, it is amazing to look at where foundational modules took place and see them remastered with all the skills and knowledge of the current development team.
Neverwinter Module 29: Mountain of Flame will be available to players on July 16, 2024, on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
