Explore the Strange and Wonderful Town of Grat

When playing Magical Delicacy, you’ll quickly realize the town of Grat is an interesting place. Not only is it full of quirky characters with fantasy-world traits and tastes, it’s also a complex labyrinth to explore.
The platformer elements of this game make exploration exciting – and occasionally frustrating – as you leap from place to place. Falling down doesn’t cause you to lose your ingredients or any health, but it does force you to start over when working your way through the map. This makes for a good balance of engaging gameplay that’s not too stressful to pull this game out of the cozy realm.
Exploring Grat is one of the most exciting parts of the game, as you’ll discover new areas and new ways to travel while you play. A little exciting sound trills any time you find a new location, making it that much more satisfying. I loved uncovering all the hidden nooks, crannies, and surprises the world had waiting for me – even if I fell off platforms into the abyss far too many times to count.
Put Your Cooking Skills to the Test With In-Depth Mechanics

If learning to navigate the map doesn’t give you enough of a puzzle, the complex and detailed cooking system will. Each customer order combines requested flavors, dishes, and ingredients to create a mini puzzle you’ll have to solve.
This complexity really builds on the cooking game mechanic, making it exciting and interesting to head to the kitchen to fulfill your orders. With a wide variety of cooking techniques, ingredients, and flavors at your disposal, you’ll be able to uncover countless combinations. And if you create a dish that doesn’t quite meet the customer’s request, you can sell it at the window to earn some extra Beads.
My one complaint with the cooking system is that I’ve yet to find any way to trash failed meals, potions, etc. Experimenting is a key part of the cooking system, but your meal inventory will get clogged with your mistakes. Thankfully, these don’t take up any kind of limited slot, but I did spend time scrolling past them to get to the good stuff.
A Spellbinding Story Unfolds as You Play

Even the best cozy games can get a bit repetitive when they’re plot-light, focused on daily tasks of farming and cooking rather than an overarching story. Magical Delicacy avoids this issue with an overarching linear plot that unfolds as you serve up delicious dishes.
Filling orders is more exciting when it helps progress the plot, unlocking new dialogue and tasks from your favorite characters. You learn more about each resident of Grat while also uncovering a deeper mystery that pulls you forward, yearning to know more.
The story of Magical Delicacy is full of colorful characters with developed personalities all their own, capturing you in a beautifully woven spell. Flora herself has a fun personality and it’s always interesting to see her slightly sarcastic interactions with the townspeople.
The more you explore and fill orders, you’ll start to become entwined with the fate of Grat and its residents while keeping some secrets of your own. I found myself genuinely eager to know what would happen next for Flora and her new friends which pushed me past even the most challenging of platforming and cooking puzzles.
Final Score: 8/10
Overall, Magical Delicacy is a delightful addition to the cozy pixel gaming world perfect for witchy gamers who want a bit of a challenge. The story is satisfying and the gameplay keeps adding new and exciting elements that propel you forward with magical momentum.
Even if your failed dishes taunt you from your inventory, you’ll no doubt enjoy all the depth and creativity baked into the cooking system. The characters, world, and elements of Magical Delicacy make for a truly enchanting combination that you won’t want to put down.
NOTE: Since we initially published our review, the developers let us know that you CAN delete failed recipes by using the Composter item. It’s not as intuitive as simply deleting, but you can clear out that inventory space after all!
