It’s been a while since Pokémon fans have been treated to a brand-new main series installment, and it shows. We’re out here clinging to breadcrumbs about the upcoming Winds and Waves. Now, some fans and reputable sources, including Serebi, suspect that The Pokemon Company is teasing some kind of big announcement at the end of November.
On October 26th, Joe Merrick of Serebi shared his suspicions that the Pokémon Japan Twitter account is counting down to something. Since then, additional posts from the account have seemingly confirmed the theory, which hones in on November 30th as the countdown date for… something? The question is, this late in the year with no major main series game release, what could Pokémon be planning?
Pokémon Japan Seemingly Teases 30th Anniversary News on November 30th
Whatever the Pokémon Japan account is counting down to, it seems pretty likely that it’s got something to do with the 30th anniversary. The countdown is embedded in a series of 30th Anniversary image logo posts, each highlighting a unique Pokémon. These logos themselves are nothing new, as Pokémon has been sharing them throughout the year in honor of the franchise’s big birthday. But their inclusion in the countdown seemingly suggests that the announcement will also be anniversary-related.
There’s also the choice of the November 30th date. Announcing 30th anniversary news on the 30th of the month has a fun kind of synchronicity to it. But with just a few months remaining in the anniversary year, it’s anyone’s guess what Pokémon could be planning.
We can rule out one of my leading theories already. I initially assumed this might be the date for the new Pokopia DLC. But today, The Pokémon Company confirmed that the second DLC pack will release on December 9th of this year. So, November 30th remains shrouded in mystery.
The text below the logos reads something to the effect of “Continue with Pokémon,” according to Joe Merrick’s translation. So, it seems like whatever is coming will be a way for fans to continue their Pokémon journey.
My best guess here is that it could be the long-rumored next drop of retro games on Nintendo Switch. Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire ports have had more rumored release dates for Switch than I can even count at this point. But the “continue” language would apply here, since it’s both a continuation of the ports to Switch and the Pokémon franchise’s journey that began in Kanto.
However, it could really be just about anything else at this point, too. So far, it seems like it’s just the Japanese accounts counting down to the date, which could mean we’re gearing up for something that will be exclusive to Japan. At any rate, the teaser theory looks pretty compelling at this point, and it’s fairly likely we’ll hear something new at the end of this month.
Still here? Good.
