Sabotage Studio just dropped a bombshell — Sea of Stars is getting a massive free update called Dawn of Equinox on November 12, featuring local co-op, combat enhancements, and other goodies.
For those not familiar with Sea of Stars, it’s an absolute gem of a turn-based RPG. It takes the best parts of ‘90s classics and reinvents them in a way that keeps you hooked.
This game is a love letter to the old-school RPGs we grew up with but manages to carve its own unique identity, and the awards prove it – Sea of Stars snagged accolades like Best Independent Game at The Game Awards and has captured the hearts of over 5 million players.
Sea of Stars Becomes a Party of Three with Dawn of Equinox Update

Now let’s talk about the Dawn of Equinox update. The headliner is undeniably the local co-op. You and up to two friends can now experience the entire adventure together, with a new Co-op Timed Hits mechanic to really make battles more interactive.
So whether you’re dishing out Sun and Moon-powered attacks or just trying to get through a tricky dungeon, you can do it with a buddy. This is a game that was already great solo, but now you can drag someone else into the chaos with you.
But co-op isn’t the only thing coming to Sea of Stars in Dawn of Equinox. There’s a huge overhaul to combat with “Mystery Locks” — a new system that makes each battle a puzzle of its own, as you’ll need to figure out how to break enemy spells with different damage types.
Plus, your Combo Points now stick around between battles, so you can plan some epic moves ahead of time.
They’ve also revamped the prologue, letting you dive straight into the action as the younger versions of the heroes, ditching the flashbacks.
Other fun additions include a speedrunner mode, where you can mess around with special features to shave off those seconds, and three new difficulty presets, making it easier (or harder) to suit your playstyle.
They’ve even thrown in a new cutscene to enhance the original storyline, plus a bunch of quality-of-life improvements, including a smarter parrot to help you hunt down missed collectibles.
I’m absolutely checking this update out – expect me to rope in anyone nearby for some co-op madness while I wait for the final DLC, Throes of the Watchmaker, coming next spring.
