In the book publishing world, September is the start of holiday releases. From the last wave of spooky season reads perfect for October to the first influx of winter holiday goodness, seasonal reading is officially in overdrive.
I’ll admit it. September is one of my favorite reading times of year. It’s when I set an overly ambitious reading schedule for October. When I dream of cooler weather, crisp leaves, and s’mores by the fire, and this September did not come to play with a truly impressive lineup of new book releases to look forward to. In fact, this month’s list is a smidge longer than usual because the September lineup is just that good.
Table of Contents
Crazy Spooky Love by Josie Silver

- Release Date: September 2nd
- Price: $19.00 on Amazon
- Publisher: Dell
- ARC Received: Yes
Josie Silver has been one of my autobuy authors ever since I read One Day In December. And when I saw that she had a new, spooky-themed book coming out this year? I actually gasped when I opened that email.
Crazy Spooky Love takes readers to the small town of Chapelwick, where Melody Bittersweet is determined to make her newly opened Ghostbusting Agency a success. There’s just one problem. Or really, three of them, in the form of a trio of ghostly brothers determined to keep an old house off the market.
Ghost Business by Jen DeLuca

- Release Date: September 9th
- Price: $19.00 on Amazon
- Publisher: Berkley
- ARC Received: Yes
Two spooky books from my auto-buy authors in one month? Yes, September really is that good. I came to Jen DeLuca through her Renaissance Festival romance series, starting with Well Met. This latest release is the second book in her haunted new Boneyard Key series, which is set in a Florida town best known for its ghosts.
Ghost Business can be read as a standalone, telling the story of a side character from book one. Sophie is so enamored with her town’s history, she’s turned it into a ghost tour guiding career. But suddenly, she’s got competition from a newcomer in town, one who is determined to make his tour conglomerate succeed in Boneyard Key. Is this town big enough for the both of them, and whatever might be growing between them?
The House of Quiet by Kiersten White

- Release Date: September 9th
- Price: $19.99 on Amazon
- Publisher: Delacorte Press
- ARC Received: Yes
My recommendations tend towards contemporary romance and the occasional cozy fantasy, as I’m sure you’ve noticed. But sometimes, you’re in the mood for something with some teeth. When I saw the pitch of “X-Men meets gothic fantasy,” I knew I’d be giving this one a try.
The House of Quiet is a dark fantasy in which Birdie struggles to force her way into the mysterious House of Quiet. This place houses children who gained mysterious powers after a Procedure gone wrong, and it’s where she thinks she’ll find her missing sister, Magpie. But the House is full of mysteries, and the path ahead isn’t as straightforward as Birdie might hope.
Hopelessly Teavoted by Audrey Goldberg Ruoff

- Release Date: September 16th
- Price: $19.99 on Amazon
- Publisher: Atria Books
- ARC Received: Yes
Every October, I try to read as many witchy romance books as I can. But in recent years, I’ve started early with September releases so I can squeeze even more magical reads in. The moment I saw Hopelessly Teavoted, I knew it was going on this year’s stack.
Hopelessly Teavoted follows potentially cursed witch Azrael Ashmedai Hart as he returns to his family manor following a major career setback. Only, he learns that his estranged former neighbor has purchased his late parents’ tea shop, and she’s embroiled in a mess that just might put them both in danger. Together, they need to break their curse and try to figure out what’s brewing between them along the way.
Dragon Fires Everywhere by Hazel Beck

- Release Date: September 23rd
- Price: $18.99 on Amazon
- Publisher: Graydon House
- ARC Received: Yes
I’ve had my eye on Hazel Beck’s Witchlore series for a while now, even if a few of the prior books are still waiting on the TBR cart. But add in dragons in the title, and you’ve got me even more intrigued. Like a lot of rom-com “series” these days, this book can be read as a standalone, though the plots are somewhat interlinked, and I intend to do just that.
Dragon Fires Everywhere brings readers back to the small town of St. Cyprian. This time, we’re following the story of Georgie Pendell, who’s struggling to feel like a main character in her own life. But after looking for solace in a storybook, she accidentally sets a dragon shifter free. A surprisingly compelling dragon shifter, who just might be the key to uncovering the mysteries of the past.
Road Trip with a Vampire by Jenna Levine

- Release Date: September 23rd
- Price: $19.00 on Amazon
- Publisher: Berkley
- ARC Received: Yes
If I may once again mention how exciting September is for me personally when it comes to new book releases, this is the third installment in one of my favorite series. The first book, My Roommate is a Vampire, pulled me right back into my vampire era like I never left. And now, it’s time for book three!
Road Trip with a Vampire is a standalone with some references that connect it to the prior books in the series. This time, we’re angling out with reformed bad witch Grizelda, aka Zelda, who hoped her move to California would free her of vampires forever. But unfortunately, an amnesia-riddled vampire shows up on her doorstep asking for help. And as a no-longer-bad witch, she can’t say no.
