After obtaining Copper Ore, the next step for powerful tools is mining Iron Ore in Moonlight Peaks. This silver metal can be found as a deposit in rocks and unlocks the second tier of improved tools at the Howling Hammer. Thankfully, you won’t need to unlock a new area to gain access to Iron Ore.
Iron Ore is tucked into the same cave as Copper Ore, but you will need to follow a different path after entering the cave system. You will also need to have a few upgrades in place to break the ore deposits. In the guide below, we will cover everything you need to know to start mining Iron Ore in Moonlight Peaks.
Where to Find Iron Ore in Moonlight Peaks
Like with Copper Ore, Iron Ore is found in the Cave of Echoes to the right of the Abrosia Estate. However, when you enter the cave, stay to the left of the cave systems. Going right yields copper, while going left yields primarily Iron Ore nodes and Iron deposits.
The nodes for the Iron ore look the same as for Copper, with chunks of Iron protruding from the stone surface. In rare spots throughout the cave, Iron deposits will spawn. These hold a higher yield of Iron Ore when broken.
How to Mine Iron Ore in Moonlight Peaks
To mine Iron Ore in Moonlight Peaks, you will need to have at least a Copper Pickaxe upgrade. The base pickaxe will not be powerful enough to break the nodes in the cave. The Copper Pickaxe can be obtained at the Howling Hammer. The upgrade requires the following materials:
- 1,000 G
- x1 Rust Pickaxe
- x3 Copper bars
Copper bars are made in the Furnace from Copper Ore and Charcoal. Once you have the needed items, you can go to the Howling Hammer at any time while it is open to upgrade. Upgraded tools are ready immediately.
To break the larger Iron Ore Nodes, you will need to upgrade to the Iron Pickaxe. This upgrade is also found at the Howling Hammer and will cost:
- 4,000G
- 1 Copper Pickaxe
- 3 Iron Bars
Once you have upgraded to the Iron pickaxe, you will be able to break most basic rocks in the caves available in the first few months of Year 1.
After unlocking Iron Ore in Moonlight Peaks, you will need to set your sights on Gold Ore. Thankfully, Iron tools will tackle most early game tasks while you wait for the next ore deposit to become available.
