Today, Onibi, a brand new studio formed by industry veterans, revealed its first title, Tomo: Endless Blue. The game is a whimsical combination of genres and influences that ultimately seems to call forth that vibe you wish you could replicate in life between Ash Ketchum and all of his Pokémon companions.
The game is an anime monster taming RPG, an eclectic collection of genres for an indie game, in which you’ll control a character who befriends Tomo. These creatures all gather on a series of islands in the Endless Blue, a place where being seem to come when worlds end.
I don’t want to be derogatory, but you can think of Tomo: Endless Blue as being a lot like Palworld. However, you only get one companion at a time who will help you farm, build a homestead, or head out in search of adventure at a time.
Carve out adventure in Tomo: Endless Blue
The above cinematic trailer really is a treat. It’s got a song by Ai Higuchi of Attack on Titan, and composition from Cecile Corbel and Simon Caby, both of whom worked on the stunning Arrietty.
As you explore this strange world, you’ll meet and befriend new Tomo, each of which have differing elemental powers. You’ll reach new procedurally generated worlds and explore them to face new challenges. This is how you might end up battling with other Tomo, befriending them, or beating them, depending on the circumstances.
What we can’t see is that the game will use voxel physics. You will build block by block using very close to real-world physics and craft wonderful contraptions like airships to help you explore.
I think the overarching sentiment with Tomo: Endless Blue is that freedom is key. You explore, uncover new wonders, then return home and build more to create a real mark on this unique world for yourself.
While this might all sound brilliant as a solo experience, it’s going to be more than that. Onibi has confirmed that there will be multiplayer when the game launches on Steam, so you can get in and play with your friends.
