Stage Tour To Reignite The Flames Of Rhythm Music Gaming With San Diego Comic-Con Appearance

RedOctane Games has announced its plans for bringing music rhythm gaming back to the top of your must-play list, and it all starts with San Diego Comic-Con. If, like me, you can’t make it, don’t worry, because we’ve got all the juicy details below.

Now, before we go any further, RedOctane Games shouldn’t be confused with the now-closed RedOctane, which later became Ubisoft Leamington Spa. But still, the developer’s name carries weight because the original was the one that pioneered the Guitar Hero series, which is exactly why we’re getting Stage Tour.

Stage Tour Has New Songs And A Comic Confirmed

Stage Tour is already off to a great start, even though it’s a while until we’ll get to play it at home. Backed by a multi-year partnership with Gibson and featuring officially licensed Gibson, Epiphone, and Kramer guitars, it’s got some stonking songs for you to play through. If you’re attending San Diego Comic-Con this year, you’ll get to try it out alongside a couple of special bonuses.

The first bonus is an official Dark Horse Comics 40-page comic that any attendee can pick up for free. Believe me, I almost booked a flight just for this. The second bonus is what you’ll get to play with at the event: a new Kramer guitar controller. While these are pre-production demo versions of the controller we’ll end up with, they’re going to give you a decent idea of how the game will play.

So far, these are the songs we know will be in the game, and I think they set a good baseline for what will be added around them.

Stage Tour aims to bring back that golden age of music rhythm gaming that we seem to have lost. I was playing a lot of games for endless hours at that point, and I’m pretty sure I played through every Guitar Hero at the time. I’m desperate to see a revival of this genre, but one that fits the current age with new controllers and gameplay that allows you to enjoy the title solo while also being broad enough to have a bunch of friends all jump in with you.

Head of Marketing and Brand for RedOctane Games, Jack Guinchard, has said, “Stage Tour is about bringing people together through the shared experience and love of music. Partnering with Dark Horse Comics allows us to expand the world of Stage Tour beyond the game itself, giving fans a fresh new way to connect with its bandmates through something exclusive that they can discover, collect, and share.” If that’s not the spirit of this genre from inception to now, I don’t know what is.
