It’s here. It’s finally here! The ALGS (Apex Legends Global Series) Championship for 2026 starts this week, and it’s not an eSports event to be missed by anyone.
If you love Apex Legends or even vaguely enjoy battle royale games, this is the eSport for you. It’s got adrenaline-filled matches over the course of the best part of a week, amazing broadcast talent talking you through everything, and the perfect finale to keep you on the edge of your seat.
ALGS Champs 2026 Is The Perfect Time To Dig In And Start Watching
I first got into ALGS two years ago and have been following it avidly ever since. I now find myself in the unique position of being stuck in a bed in the front room of my house while I nurse a broken back for a few weeks and barely sleep. Perfect for following an eSports event taking place in Sapporo, Japan.
Over the course of four days, teams compete in LAN matches in Apex Legends for points that will earn them a place on the last day of the tournament. With a $2 million prize pool, every player is giving it their all. On that last day, the teams that have qualified must all then compete for 50 points and then a win in order to take home the prize money and trophy.
While that’s a massive simplification of the facts, the details really don’t matter. ALGS can be enjoyed just as much by a newcomer as someone who has watched since year 1. On the last day, we all want just one more match, we want drama, we want tension, and that’s exactly what we get. It’s nail-biting stuff, and some of the best gameplay you’ll see on Twitch or YouTube.
Watching this tournament is always a highlight for me, and this year’s Championship has already begun with a bang. A well-known player, ImperialHal, who plays for the Falcons, had his controller banned just a day before the tournament was due to start.
Now, I think there’s a valid reason for the controller being banned. It has wi-fi capabilities and could be tampered with by a third party, if they were incredibly smart, capable, and knew what they were doing. I also don’t think it’s that big a deal, and if anyone can bounce back from this, it’s ImperialHal.
Some people get really into the drama of sports like Football, Formula 1, and even Volleyball. For me, ALGS is it, and I think that if you give it a chance, it’ll be your eSport of choice too.
