PowerA Pac-Man Enhanced Wireless Controller with RGB Review – A Solid Collector’s Controller

PowerA has the cream of the crop when it comes to Nintendo-certified accessories for the Nintendo Switch, and the new Pac-Man Enhanced Wireless controller with Lumectra RGB ghost is no exception. While it doesn’t have the bells and whistles of pro models, this is a solid controller, and one that will delight Pac-Man fans.

This funky controller combines PowerA’s Lumectra RGB technology with a cute, retro Pac-Man overlay for a truly unique gaming experience. It is the perfect option for fans of backlit accessories, especially those who might have passed on the glow-in-the-dark option that is in a higher price bracket.

A Simple Design With Stunning RGB

The Pac-Man Enhanced Wireless Controller is part of the standard line of wireless options for the Nintendo Switch. This means no extras like the adjustable trigger locks or analog sticks.

However, what this controller lacks in extra features, it makes up for in premium quality. Every PowerA Enhanced Wireless controller for the Switch has two mappable buttons on the bottom of the device, a rechargeable internal battery, and motion control tracking.

One of my personal favorite things about this line of controllers is the weight. They are nice and heavy, and don’t feel like they will flip right out of your hands. The faceplate overlay is smooth and slick, but the grips have been textured for tactile hold.

There is no jack for a microphone or headset, but with the Switch offering Bluetooth compatibility for audio options, players won’t need to worry so much about being wired into their controller while playing.

Retro RGB Makes Pac-Man Shine

The key element of this sturdy, quality controller is the Pac-Man faceplate. The front of the controller, when powered off, shows vintage Pac-Man on the left grip and the Pac-Man logo on the right. A small version of the dot-chomper and a ghost in chase sit at the top of the device.

However, when powered on, the Enhanced Wireless controller makes use of PowerA’s signature “Ghost” RGB. The black of the faceplate lights up brilliantly in the pattern of the arcade version of the Pac-Man game background. The barriers that make up the map can be programmed to show a solid color, a chase pattern, a wave, or a “victory” pattern.

I love the Ghost Lumectra RGB that PowerA utilizes. Instead of accenting a solid image, it creates a masterpiece in lights that live actively under your fingers as you play. All my favorite controllers currently use this RGB, and the PowerA Fusion Pro remains my all-time favorite thanks to its ghost faceplate and general options.

Final Score – 8/10

Of the entire PowerA Pac-Man collection, this stunning controller is definitely my personal favorite. As a Nintendo Switch player, this is a controller that will shine in my Switch accessory collection. It also mixes nostalgic influence with modern technology for a sleek and lovely design.

For those looking to celebrate Pac-Man‘s anniversary in style, this is a great option, and one that isn’t as pricey as the Xbox option that dropped previously. It’s fun, the RGB is bright, and the quality is exactly what I want to see from a PowerA option for the Switch.
