Earlier this year, the highly anticipated magic school game Witchbrook resurfaced. After years without any updates, the game hit us with a winter 2025 release window and the news that it would be coming to Switch. Unfortunately, Witchbrook has since been officially delayed to 2026. But it looks like Chucklefish doesn’t plan to go radio silent on us again. In fact, they just dropped a brand-new dev blog!
This latest update is the 3rd Witchbrook dev blog since the game ramped up communication earlier this year. Prior installments have shown off romanceable characters and other features. Now, we’re getting a look at character customization in the upcoming cozy game. And my friends, it’s looking good.
Witchbrook Reveals In-Depth Look at Clothing System & Character Customization
If there was any doubt about why Witchbrook needs a bit more time, this latest dev blog certainly sheds some light on the situation. The developers are clearly putting a ton of thought into every aspect of the game, right down to making sure every single item of clothing can be layered however you like. In a series of sneak peek videos, players can get a look at just how many character customization options will be available when we finally do get Witchbrook. And it’s got me more excited than ever about the upcoming magical life sim.
As this brief clip shows, players will have plenty of options for hairstyles and hair colors. This includes the ability to layer in different hair, fringe, and facial hair options to craft a custom look. And every single option is available regardless of the gender you choose for your in-game persona, allowing for maximum freedom to create the look you want.
The clothing system is similarly robust. There are 11 layers of clothing available to mix and match. And that makes for a lot of work ensuring everything works together correctly, in every animation. According to this update, the team has already made over 60 unique clothing items to mix and match in Witchbrook. You can get a sense of how this will work with this layering clip from the dev blog.
Although it’s disappointing we’ve got longer to wait to attend Witchbrook, updates like these show why the game takes time. As a no-crunch studio, Chucklefish is making sure the game will be everything we hope when it does finally get here. And these new clips prove that it’s going to be incredibly in-depth, letting us live the magical life of our dreams.
To see all of the new gameplay footage shared and read the full dev blog, you can check out the official post on Steam. Following the delay, Witchbrook is now expected sometime in 2026.
