With the success of breakout indie games like Balatro and Slay the Spire, it feels like we’re seeing roguelite deckbuilders pop up all over the place. And for good reason, as these games have an addictive, engaging gameplay loop that gives them solid replay potential. But even if you love a good deckbuilder, sometimes you want something just a bit different. That’s where GrimKeep comes in with its new twist on the deckbuilding concept. Rather than working with cards, players will instead build up a hoard of powerful dice to power their runs. And now, it finally has a release date.
GrimKeep comes from Resolution Games, the studio behind Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked, which just so happens to be one of my favorite virtual tabletop experiences. Announced early last year, the highly anticipated twist on deckbuilders is set to release on November 30th for PC and macOS via Steam and PS5. And that’s not all the big news Resolution Games has on offer. A brand-new GrimKeep demo is live on Steam right now ahead of October’s Steam Next Fest.
GrimKeep Puts a New Twist on the Roguelite, and It’s Perfect for the Dice Goblins Among Us

If you love a strategic roguelite but are tired of deckbuilding, why not swap your deck of cards for a bag of dice, instead? In GrimKeep, players battle their way through a cursed city to reach the castle at its center. And yes, there’s a princess within, but she’s no innocent damsel in distress. Along the way, you seek out dice to fill your bag, along with items to flesh out your build. When combat inevitably arises, you’ll roll your way through poker-style combos, adjusting as you go to refine your perfect build. Each run is a “self-contained, turn-based descent” that can span a few minutes to a few hours, depending on how the dice rolls fall.
At launch, the game will offer plenty of options for players to craft their ideal build. There will be 7 playable heroes, 7 unique dice types, 30 unlockable hero skills, and over 200 unique items to toy with. As you play your way through the cursed city, you’ll unlock rewards to upgrade your dice and expand the possibilities.

These will help you prepare your ultimate strategy as you face off against over 60 unique monsters in a dark fantasy world drenched in Lovecraftian horrors. If that sounds like your kind of game, you can give it a go right now via the newly launched Steam demo. This trial run of GrimKeep is designed to give roguelite fans a chance to experience its core gameplay mechanics, so it should give you a good idea of how the full game will work.
GrimKeep launches in full on November 30th for Steam and PS5. It will cost $14.99 and is available to Wishlist on Steam now. The demo is available now and will be part of the upcoming Steam Next Fest event on October 19th-26th.
