Link and Epona from The Legend of Zelda are riding into stores as a new LEGO model, just in time for the franchise’s 40th anniversary and the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake. Earlier today, Nintendo celebrated the iconic Zelda franchise with a special livestream that highlighted some of its plans for the future – not least of which are the forthcoming live-action Legend of Zelda movie and a remake of one of the series’ most beloved entries.
There is also some neat Legend of Zelda merchandise on the way for the 40th anniversary. A new line of Amiibo figures will enable players to unlock new masks in the new Ocarina of Time game; Hasbro is releasing figures of Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf alongside an electronic Master Sword; and Nintendo is partnering with Hori for a pair of Ocarina replicas – one with electronics and one without.
Link and Epona Continue Nintendo And LEGO’s Partnership
And speaking of collaborations, Nintendo took a moment during this week’s Legend of Zelda livestream to reveal a brand-new LEGO set featuring Link and his trusty steed Epona. The hero of Hyrule is shown with the legendary Master Sword in hand as Epona gets ready to charge into action, all while standing on a small piece of grass that serves as a stand for the model. There is currently no word on when this new LEGO set will be released or how much it will cost, but it seems to be more in line with the higher-end collector sets out there.
There have already been two official Legend of Zelda LEGO sets – both of which were themed at least in part after Ocarina of Time. The now-discontinued “Great Deku Tree 2-in-1” set allowed fans to switch between the Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild versions of Link and Zelda as they sought wisdom from the Great Deku Tree. Meanwhile, the more action-focused “Ocarina of Time – The Final Battle” set featured Link and Zelda locked in combat against Ganondorf in his monstrous Ganon form – just like in the game’s final boss fight.
Players will soon get to re-experience this boss fight (along with the game’s many other iconic moments) when the long-awaited The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5. In the meantime, Nintendo has plenty of fun merch on the way to help fans celebrate the 40th anniversary of one of gaming’s most magical action-adventure franchises.
