The finals for the 2025 ePremier League Championship, the eSport built around EA Sports FC 25, came to an explosive conclusion over the weekend. As the headline has already given away, much to the chagrin, I’m sure, of Manchester United fans, it was Manchester City’s players who took the trophy home.
What made this final all the more brilliant to watch is the fact that it saw the previous three-time champion match up against his previous team and teammate. It really doesn’t get much more exciting than this, and I’d go as far as saying it puts dozens of real football matches I’ve watched over the years to shame.
EA Sports FC 25 Gets A Dramatic Finale To Its 2025 ePremier League Championship

Even if you don’t care about eSports, though I think you should, this was a match-up for the history books. Tekkz, a previous Manchester City player and three-time ePremier League champion, faced off against his old teammate, Matias Bonanno, and Jofanso, who represented Man City in the tournament.
The games went on into the night, live from the physical LAN in Manchester, UK, until Tekks and Bonanno went head-to-head and even into extra time. The end result was 8-6 victory to Bonanno, leading to Manchester City nabbing the trophy for the third consecutive time.
I’ve always thought it was silly how, with real football matches, the media teams will build up a pre-game video that paints whatever teams are playing as the biggest rivals on the planet. They pick out the most obscure details, every previous encounter, player histories, and put it all together so it’s a sort of epic movie that gets you ready for the ensuing 90 minutes of football.
This championship match really did feel like the payoff to that kind of build-up. The league has been going for eight years, but the pool of pro players is still small enough that these matches are always electric. With that said, I’m always excited when new talent comes through and pushes pros to play better, because you can get way too complacent in that comfort zone.
As a result of the win, Manchester City’s players get a cool £15,000 each, and the team has another trophy for the cabinet. What I’d love to see one day is more teams making an effort to truly push the envelope and make for even more incredible finales like this. I’m looking at you, Leicester City and Norwich!
