Blizzard has just released the next major update in Diablo Immortal, the Writhing Abyss, which brings with it a slew of new systems and endgame content for players to undertake in their battles against the Burning Hells.
This update is the next phase in the Age of Unmaking, the yearlong roadmap for Diablo Immortal that has also seen a new class, The Tempest, added to the game’s roster. With this newest update, the free-to-play title has only gotten bigger and better.
Writhing Abyss Update Bolsters the ARPGs Already Sizable Offerings

The Writhing Abyss update has several new pieces of content, as well as a huge number of additions to existing systems. The biggest new features start in the endgame, with two new modes for players to enjoy: the Abyssal Verge and Castle Erabban.
The Abyssal Verge has players running and killing as you fight your way through the horde of hell, all while avoiding the creeping madness that follows. As players kill more enemies, they will earn more rewards, eventually leading to a final boss they need to defeat before they escape.
As for Castle Erabban, players will need to quickly open chests within the time limit, with each chest increasing the timer, as well as the danger players will face and the loot dropped. After reaching a certain level of danger, the final chest appears, and players will need to find it, defeat the boss, and walk away with their rewards, including affixes and Runes.
Along with the endgame, a new progression system has been added, which sees players earn Runes through these new endgame activities and during regular play. But using these runes, players can add affixes to increase their power and stats, as well as combine several to increase their potency.
The update includes several other additions like new Legendary Gems, Inferno Difficulties, Helliquary Bosses, and several updates to systems like Resonance, and a new limited-time mode. The full details on this massive update can be on the Blizzard website.
This Writhing Abyss update comes on the heels of plentiful Diablo news, including the release date of Diablo 4’s first expansion, Vessel of Hatred, which is set to release October 8. Both Diablo 4 and Diablo Immortal are also celebrating their respective anniversaries, with new items and events currently underway.
