If the name Chickenhare rings a bell to you, then it’s probably because of 2022’s Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness. It’s a tale of discovery and self-acceptance framed through a thrilling Indiana Jones-esque adventure that I highly recommend to anyone with a spare couple of hours.
If you’re as big a fan as I am, then you may also know that a sequel is planned, Chickehare and the Secret of Groundhog. Coinciding with that film, and introducing a brand new character to the series, is a video game called Chickenhare and the Treasure of Spiking-Beard. We’ve known a game was on the way for a while, but now we finally have a release date for it.
Chickenhare and the Treasure of Spiking-Beard Launches Just a Day Before the New Movie
Chickenhare and the Treasure of Spiking-Beard hits PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on October 14, 2025. I’ll be the first to admit that I thought any game for the IP would probably end up as a quick cash-grab, but developer N-Zone has spent the last two years working incredibly hard to prove me wrong.
As you can see in the trailer above, the game appears to have substance. It stars the titular Chickenhare, Meg the ever-surprising and martial arts master skunk, and reluctant companion Abe the turtle.
Each character has their own abilities, with Meg being the better fighter and Chickenhare being able to glide across long-distances. This in itself is in line with that first movie’s core message of embracing who you are and being the best version of yourself possible.

Gameplay resembles that of any ’90s-era 3D platformer, but I think that’s a good thing. Ultimately, this game’s main audience is likely kids, and that type of gameplay is easy for anyone to get into. Even adults who want to expand their knowledge of the Chickenhare universe’s lore.
Alongside the release date, N-Zone also announced a real-life treasure hunt for physical prizes worth a total of $200,000. The clues to those prizes, including a solid gold bar, are hidden on the game’s website and in the game itself. So, that means you’ve got some sleuthing to do right now if you want to find everything you need to know for launch day.
I have to admit that I’m pretty pumped to see an ARG adventure launched to tie in with the first Chickenhare game. Now all I need is a fantastic pig level (if you know you know), and this could end up being one of my favorite releases of the year.
