Cozy crafting survival game with automation and solarpunk at its core, Autonomica, has smashed its initial funding goal on Kickstarter in just under a day. This wasn’t a small target either, at $170,000/£128,195, but it’s a testament to the development team’s vision.
I’ve had my eye on Autonomica for a little while because it does something really unique. It pulls together the engrossing aesthetic of survival and crafting in a setting where you’ve been stranded on a tropical island with a fantastic vision for future technology and that oh-so-sweet automation vibe you get from games like Factorio.
Autonomica is Officially Happening and Well-Worth Checking Out
It’s hard to nail down exactly what Autonomica is because it’s got everything you’ll love about cozy games – all wrapped up into a nice big bundle. You begin as an engineer who gets stranded on a mysterious island. You must eke out an existence while strange things happen all around you.
There are the usual cozy gaming tropes, such as crafting, decorating, relationships, and even multiplayer, but you’ve also got an island mystery with mysterious ghosts moving between the trees at night.
As you bring your solarpunk base together and kit it out with automated machines to help you make bigger and better structures, you’ll unravel the secrets around you. Each step closer to the truth is another few hours of figuring out the plan for building something massive, and that’s the crux of what will keep you engaged.
At the time of writing, Crytivo has posted its first update on Autonomica to try to entice even more people into backing the project. The first stretch goal is Modular Aquariums. I don’t think I need to explain this; it kind of speaks for itself as to why you’d want to catch and display your fishing catches. This feature alone secures my support.
Here’s the exciting part: Along the way to each stretch goal are Looting Areas. These are basically random features in the game’s roadmap that we won’t know about until we hit that level of funding. It’s all on us to reach them and see what they are, because there’s no way we’d guess, according to Crytivo.
You should definitely check out the Autonomica Kickstarter if you fancy backing a solid concept this year. There are physical goodies available as rewards, including t-shirts and an art book!
