Once you click the magic sushi machine and open your restaurant, you’ll serve sushi to customers. This starts out pretty simple, matching recipe styles to customers. As you progress through the game, more elements will come into play, testing your restaurant running prowess.
Each day before you open the restaurant, you’ll spend time exploring the town and gathering supplies to improve your restaurant. This includes buying ingredients to level up sushi recipes, gathering new furniture for the restaurant, and cultivating relationships with townsfolk.
As you build relationships and complete quests, new storylines and gameplay elements will be revealed. This makes every day in Rolling Hills: Make Sushi, Make Friends an adventure.

How to Unlock New Sushi Recipes
One question that comes to mind with any restaurant game is “How do I get new recipes?” In Rolling Hills: Make Sushi, Make Friends, there are a few different ways you’ll add new recipes to Sushi Bot’s repertoire.
Level Up Your Restaurant
First, you’ll learn new recipes as you level up your restaurant by serving sushi to customers. This happens naturally as you play your way through the game, and you’ll get a cute little cut scene whenever Sushi Bot learns a new recipe.
Talk to the Traveling Sushi Chef
Occasionally, a traveling sushi chef will visit Rolling Hills. When they do, you can learn one new recipe from them during each visit. They always show up just outside your restaurant in the town square.

The recipes you learn from the Traveling Sushi Chef tend to be rare, interesting recipes that will have great benefits, so make sure you go say hello when you see them in the town square.
Buy Recipes with Influence Points
Once you meet the influencer Min, you’ll be able to collect influence points and use them to buy new items from her. Sometimes, she will have new recipes on offer, which you can buy with challenge points.
Redeem Achievement Rewards
When you unlock new achievements in the game, be sure to visit the achivements menu! There, you’ll see a little present icon on any achievements that offer rewards – and sometimes, you’ll learn a new recipe when you click on that achievement.
How to Get New Hats
I don’t know about you, but as soon as I saw the “hat” option in the menu, I needed to know how to get new hats for Sushi Bot. New hat styles can be purchased from Min using influence points.

You’ll need to complete a quest to get WiFi for the town before she’ll come to stay. After you do, you’ll be able to buy new hats with your influence points. Influence points are earned by completing daily challenges, which you’ll be able to view in the main menu once they’re unlocked.
TIP: Increase your friendship level with Min to unlock more options in the influence points store. You’ll be able to get even more hats!
Hats are also occasionally given as rewards for reaching new levels of friendship with villagers by having coffee or dessert with them at the cafe. These hats match the friend you earn them with, so you’ll get an angler’s cap from Coggie and a construction hat from Wren, etc.
What Are Challenges in Rolling Hills?
Once you unlock challenges, you’ll have a set of three tasks to complete each day. You can see the daily tasks for each in-game day by opening the menu. They’ll also pop up on the side of the screen any time you’re idle.
Some challenges, like serving every customer, can only be completed while running the restaurant. Others, like knocking on three doors, must take place before you start serving sushi.
Each challenge earns you influence points, which you can spend by talking to Min where she sits down by the bridge. When you speak with her, she’ll tell you how many points you have, and then let you browse the shop for hats, recipes, and more!
How to Find the Imitation Crab in Rolling Hills

The first time the Imitation Crab comes around, you’ll get a pop-up notification explaining this new challenge. You’ll only be able to find the Imitation Crab on days when one of your challenges is set to “Find the Imitation Crab.” That’s how you know he’s out and about.
To find the Imitation Crab, zoom around the town looking for objects that aren’t normally there. The first time I found it, it was a discarded soda can that looked suspiciously nice, not all crumpled up like the ones you typically pick up and recycle. Basically, make a loop around the map looking for unusual items and interact with them when the Imitation Crab challenge is available, and you’ll find this crafty crustacean.
Rolling Hills: Make Sushi, Make Friends Quests
As you play through Rolling Hills, you’ll unlock new storylines and quests to follow. Here are our tips for the quests we’ve encountered so far.
Mysterious Book Shrine Quest Guide

When your sushi restaurant hits a certain level of popularity, Coggie will appear at the end of your shift. He will present you with a mysterious book he found near the shrine and ask for your help deciphering it. Thus begins your first quest!
Step One: Translate the Text
First up, you need to translate the book to see what it’s about. Head to the cafe, and Maia will design a program to translate it. You then learn it depicts ancient rituals once performed in Rolling Hills – but she can only translate the first one. You’ll need to perform the ritual to learn more.
Step Two: Gather Ingredients for First Ritual
Your first ritual is an offering of a giant sushi roll to the shrine. To create it, you need to grow a massive cucumber! Talk to Arman at the store, and he’ll tell you what you need to grow it:
- Heirloom cucumber seeds
- Nutrient-rich fertilizer
- Place to grow crops
Arman will supply the seeds, so you need to find the other two things.
Fertilizer: Talk to Maia in the cafe about the fertilizer, and she’ll ask you to collect food scraps. Do this during your next shift at the restaurant by cleaning dirty tables. One shift should do it. Then, head back to Maia and she will craft the fertilizer for you.
Place to grow crops: Talk to Wren in her workshop, and she’ll offer to rent you the field next door. She will ask for 500 gold, so you’ll need to earn enough to pay her before you can complete this step.
Step Three: Perform the Ritual

After you gather everything you need, talk to Arman and he’ll meet you in the field to plant the seeds. Soon, the giant cucumber will grow and you’ll enter a cutscene to make the sushi offering at the shrine. This will unlock the ability to increase your restaurant’s popularity score even more!
WiFi for Rolling Hills Quest Guide
Coggie is a little too excited about getting new residents for Rolling Hills and tells an influencer that the village definitely, 100% has WiFi. But it doesn’t yet – and that’s where Sushi Bot comes in.
As usual, where tech is involved, you’ll want to talk to Maia. Head to the cafe and speak with her, and she’ll tell you she can buy an antenna to get WiFi for Rolling Hills. But it’s expensive, and she needs you to pitch in 500 gold.
Once you have the money, give it to Maia. You’ll then be able to install the WiFi antenna and run a quick test to bring internet to Rolling Hills. Once you do, Min will agree to stay, and you’ll unlock Challenges (and the ability to buy new hats!)
Yorick Quest Guide
As your village’s reputation grows, you’ll attract a weary and eccentric traveler, Yorick the playwright. He’ll ask for your help with gathering the necessary inspiration to finish his big play.
First Yorick Encounter
After you first meet him, you’ll find Yorick in the town square outside the restaurant. Speak with him, and he’ll admit that he has writer’s block but is very confident he’ll finish the script soon. He asks you to check in again.
Second Yorick Encounter

Find Yorick down by the water on the beach this time. He’ll confess to struggling with inspiration and ask you to find “furniture that lights the path.”
Check in at Wren’s workshop to look for and purchase an item that fits the bill. Personally, I bought the kitty cat lamp, but any lamp or light should do. Once you have the item, talk to Yorick again and you’ll be prompted to show it to him. Then, he’ll ask you to find him again when he will definitely have finished the script.
Third Yorick Encounter

Next, you’ll find Yorick hanging out in front of the Brew & Browse cafe. Once again, he needs inspiration – this time, he wants to see 15 different sushi recipes.
If you’ve been spending influence points on recipes & talking to the traveling sushi chef, you may already have 15 different ones. In that case, just talk to him again and he’ll be satisfied. If not, simply unlock more recipes and find him again to complete this stage.
Fourth Yorick Encounter

Next up, you’ll find the bard hiding in shame behind a trash can between two houses on the road to the cafe. He finished his play but crumbled it up and threw it to the wind in anger. He asks you to find the pages.
These will be scattered around the map randomly, so spend some time roaming around clicking on the little trash heaps.

The game doesn’t notify you when you’ve found them all, so do a good thorough loop of the map, then go talk to Yorick. If you have all the pages, he’ll let you know. If not, try searching again. In my experience, they were all pretty easy to spot.
Once you return the pages to Yorick, he’ll finally perform his play – with your help! This makes Yorick a new permanent member of the community.
Al Nonymous Quest Guide

When the Sushi Restaurant reaches Level 9, a mysterious note will appear after your shift, asking you to meet at the bus stop at midnight. You’ll then enter into a cutscene where you meet the mysterious treasure hunter, Al Nonymous. He asks you to find a L00K-1T Hidden Object Finder to help track down the treasure he’s tracked to Rolling Hills.
Like any other tech-sounding object, Maia in the cafe will be your first stop. Talk to her and she’ll offer to order the object finder, but first, you’ll need to come up with 2,000 gold. Once you have it, Maia will order and help you install the Hidden Object Finder.
Next, find Al Nonymous standing in the village square outside the restaurant. Talk to him and he’ll ask you to look out for signs of unusual activity using the L00K-1T Hidden Object Finder. Toggle the finder on by pressing L3 on a controller. It will send out periodic beeps that get faster when you’re close to something unusual.
Follow the beeps first to a spot up past the Restaurant, clicking on nearby objects when the beeping gets fastest. You’ll then encounter a clue that will show you where to go next – towards the Workshop.
Again, follow the beeps and click on the nearby bushes. This will give you the next clue, which points you towards the beach.

Once you follow your beeps down to the beach, you’ll encounter the mysterious “treasure” – another robot! Al Nonymous will come to talk to you, admitting he wasn’t fully truthful before. He asks you to follow the robot and try talking to it – roll up to the bot just a short way away and have a chat. You’ll discover it wants to help you make sushi!
The new Lil Bot will join your crew at the Sushi Restaurant, and your quest is complete. Al Nonymous – whose real name is revealed to be Gibson – will also stay in Rolling Hills, and building up your relationship with him will earn you new helpful skills for Lil Bot.
Second Spirit Quest Guide
One night after your restaurant closes, Maia will appear to let you know that she and Kappa have translated the next ritual from the mysterious book. Go see her in the cafe the next day, and you’ll discuss what’s needed to perform the second ritual.
Maia informs you you’ll need to find an ideal fishing spot to catch a giant version of the Lilliput Snail. To find the spot, head down to the beach. There, you will see some glittery spots in the sand. Click on them and you’ll either find that it’s not quite the right spot or get a dialogue saying it’s the ideal fishing spot. When I did it, I only had to click two spots to find the right one. For me, it was right near the edge of the beach.

Once you find the ideal fishing spot, your friends will appear to discuss how you might manage to wrangle a giant fish. You will need a reinforced fishing rod and some impressive bait.
Talk to Arman in the Shop about the bait. He will suggest you attract an impressive fisherwoman to your restaurant by serving 10 Fish recipes that have their quality boosted with ingredients. Make sure you’ve boosted up your Fish recipes, then spend a night or two serving sushi to hit this goal. Once you do, a mysterious note will appear, divulging the details for the special bait.

For the fishing rod, talk to Wren in the Workshop. She’ll make the rod, but you need to give her decorations made of metal – three of them in total. Things like lamps and vending machines fit the bill, so either purchase these or recycle them from your existing inventory to make the rod. Now, you’re ready to head back to the ideal fishing spot so Coggie can try to catch the legendary fish.
Talk to Coggie down at the dock to the south of your Restaurant. Select the Second Spirit quest, and you’ll head to the ideal fishing spot together.

The rest of the quest will play out in cutscenes, and you’ll soon add the second spirit to your friends in Rolling Hills. You’ll also be able to increase your restaurant’s reputation level even more!
Funny Business Quest Guide

When your Sushi Restaurant reaches Level 12, you’ll get a colorful new visitor – Pagliacci the ex-clown! Pagliacci is hoping to find a new way to use his skills so he can stay in Rolling Hills. You’ll help him through a series of trial attempts at various jobs in this quest.
First, find Pagliacci at Maia’s Cafe. He will ask you to put in a good word with him.

Talk to Maia and she’ll offer a one-day trial period. Go about your sushi business for the rest of the day, then check back with Maia and Pagliacci at the cafe the following in-game day.
Alas, it’s not a fit. Pagliacci will relocate to the next place he hopes to find a job. Find him in Arman’s shop next.

Once again, chat with Arman to get Pagliacci a test run. Wait until the next day, then follow up.
Sadly, this gig also goes awry. Pagliacci’s next stop will be Wren’s workshop. Stop in, chat with Wren, and check back the next day.

Alas, Pagliacci also doesn’t have a great trial run with Wren. All hope seems lost, and Pagliacci will retire to a bench in the town square, looking sad.

Chat with him there, and your friends will appear to share how even though things didn’t go quite to plan, he ultimately did help them out. They offer a small stipend to let Pagliacci stay in Rolling Hills to plan out his next move. He’ll become a permanent resident, and you’ll be able to invite him for coffee or dessert at the cafe to increase your friendship and gain new perks.
Star Quest Guide
Get your Sushi Restaurant to Level 14, and you’ll receive a visit from the terrifying supervillain, Chaos. They will change your restaurant’s wallpaper to something that clashes with the flooring! Thankfully, the hero Star will also appear and offer to train you in the ways of superheroics.
To begin the Star quest, find Star leaning against the mountainside towards the far edge of town (past the beach, on your way to the cafe).

Talk to Star, and he’ll suggest that you need to pick a hat for your superhero sidekick costume. He will ask you to get three options – the Viking Helmet, Archer Hat, and Witch Hat. These are all available to buy from Min using Influence Points. By the time I unlocked the Star quest, I already had all three.
If you have them, just talk to Star again. Otherwise, go buy them from Min so you can move on to the next stage. Once you have all three hats, talk to Star again in the same spot. He’ll ask you to pick your superhero sidekick costume. Choose any of the three hats, and Star will give you a sidekick name to match.
You’ll then enter a pretend battle with Chaos. You can choose any combat options during the battle, and it will play out with Star eventually claiming victory. But Chaos will strike again, and Star wants you to undergo more training so you’re ready.
Next, find Star outside Maia’s Cafe.

Talk to him again, and he’ll suggest that you need to seek inspiration to find your signature move. He will ask you to collect three elemental sushi recipes – the Battery Roll, the Volcano Roll, and the Frosty Roll. These can be acquired by leveling up your Sushi Restaurant. I had all three by the time I got to this point in the quest.
Once you have all three sushi recipes, talk to Star again. He will let you choose which recipe will inspire your signature abilities – pick whichever one you like, and you’ll enter your next battle with Chaos. This one, however, doesn’t go according to plan.
After Star runs off upset, you’ll find him for the third time down on the beach, near where Pagliacci hangs out.

Talk to him and he’ll explain why he’s upset. The rest of the quest will finish up with a heartwarming cutscene, and Star will decide to stay in Rolling Hills.
The Final Spirit Quest Guide

Once your sushi restaurant reaches Level 15, Maia will stop by to let you know that she and the other spirits have translated the final recipe in the ritual book.
Head to the cafe and talk to Maia, and she’ll let you know what the next recipe requires – a sushi roll made of solid gold. Initially, that seems like quite a problem, but talk to Maia again and she’ll offer a potential solution. She has designed a new feature for the Sushi-Matic that will turn your recipes to gold!
Maia instructs you to install the Midas Modifier in the Sushi-Matic and serve up 5 gold recipes.

Head back to the restaurant and interact with the Sushi-Matic to install the Midas Modifier. Then, make sure that the Midas Modifier feature is enabled before your next shift. This will randomly turn some of your recipes into gold versions. Unfortunately, their quality will suffer, but you need to get through a shift serving golden sushi to advance in the quest.
One shift should be plenty, and Maia will stop by right afterward to check in. Alas, the golden sushi wasn’t very tasty, and you’ll want to make sure you turn the Midas Modifier off next time you open the restaurant.
Even though the food wasn’t great, you’ll enter a cutscene of trying to serve giant golden sushi to the statue anyway. The spirit doesn’t appear, which leaves everyone to think through what might work better instead.
Arman has an idea, so go to the store and talk to him next. He will suggest that the real “golden” ingredient is love and that you should bring all of your friends to the shrine to summon the next spirit.
In game quest terms, that means you need to reach maximum friendship with everyone in Rolling Hills. You can do this by inviting them for coffee or dessert at the cafe until they hit max level.
I recommend maximizing friendship with Maia first because this unlocks the ability to have a Feast with your friends. This automatically brings your friendship to the next level in just one meal and will make maxing out the rest of your friendships much easier.

Once all of your friendships are at Level 5, head back to the store and talk to Arman again. This will begin the final sequence of events that summons the last spirit. You’ll spend some time in an extended final cutscene with some unexpected surprises along the way – enjoy, because it’s the end of the game’s main storyline!
After you finish this quest and the surprise twist that comes with it, you’ve completed the main story for Rolling Hills. When the credits finish rolling, you can continue to play and serve sushi at your restaurant afterward.

Glad you’re enjoying the game! Gibson is a character you meet in one of the later quests, so you’re probably just not there yet. 🙂 He’ll show up once your restaurant hits Level 9
Hi! I enjoyed the game and I’m wondering if you know if you can continue to expand the restaurant after the end credits? Thanks!
Great question! We’re looking into it now and will update you when we have an answer!
