Discounty Walkthrough: Main Story Quests, Shopkeeping Tips, & Trade Deals

Discounty is a pixel art shopkeeping sim with a dark side. In this game, you run the local discount shop. But capitalism can be a real drag, as you realize while helping your Aunt Tellar build her Discounty empire. And just like any good retail experience, you may be in need of a little training to really nail the job.

For the most part, quests are pretty easy to track in Discounty thanks to your handy PDA. But that doesn’t mean they’re always easy to complete. Our Discounty walkthrough is here to help you get the best deal on your gaming experience. And as of August 2026, it has been fully updated to include the content from the People or Profit update, too!

Basic Gameplay Overview

In Discounty, your day is split into three segments: pre-work hours, Discounty store hours, and post-work hours. Before and after work, you’ll meet the locals, make trade deals, and solve the mysteries of Blomkest.

During Discounty store hours, you’re running the shop. Organize your store, keep shelves stocked, and run the checkout, all while making sure to get customers out the door before the store closes. This portion of gameplay is definitely fast-paced, especially early on, but it’s still a soothing rhythm for shopkeeping sim fans.

How Long is Discounty?

Depending on how quickly you breeze through story quests and solidify trade deals, the base story of Discounty will likely take you around 20-25 hours to beat.

As of June 6th, Discounty has a new free update that adds additional endgame content. The People or Profit update adds around 5+ additional hours of Discounty, plus endgame quests to make it more rewarding to keep running the shop.

How to Unlock Trade Deals

Initially, you’ll be able to secure three trade deals for Discounty. Later, a fourth option will become available. But as the quest log is so fond of saying, this might take a while. To get started with the initial trade deals, you will need to find and speak with the following characters:

• Karl – by the fallen tree at the edge of the main Blomkest map, past the tavern
• Barbara – in the lower pier level of the map, at the far right side by the cannery
• Fisher – in the lower pier level of the map, at the far left side by the boat

Speaking to each of these NPCs will set you on the path to unlock their trade deals for Oats, Fishy Sticks, and Fresh Fish, respectively. Unlocking your fourth trade deal will take some time, as you will need to wait to be able to enter the forest again before you can visit the factory and meet the fourth vendor:

• Tammy – in the forest level of the map, at the far top left side by the factory

These four trade deals are the entirety of what’s available before you roll credits. However, with the new free update, you will be able to keep forging new connections for Discounty in Chapter 4.

How to Unlock New People or Profit Trade Deals

In Chapter 4, the new content added with the People or Profit update, you can unlock 3 new, additional trade deals. These deals will open up after you complete the initial Under New Management quest. You should get a cutscene as each new entrepreneur moves to town. Specifically, you will be able to establish new trade deals with:

• Angeel – by the closed Cursed but Curious store
• Gaspard – by the abandoned building in the Forest
• Casey – near her crashed car next to the John Key Museum

Speaking to each NPC will unlock the quest to negotiate the trade deal. This time around, restoring the locations where they want to open shop will be essential to establishing your trade connections.

How to Level Up Your Trade Deals

Securing trade deals is just the beginning! The higher trade deal tiers unlock through story quests, which will become available as you progress in the game. To stay on track to unlock new products from each vendor, be sure to stock and sell their products. You’ll need to sell a certain number from the first tier before the second tier will be available.

The second tier unlocks once you hit the sales goal for the first item, with a small quest for each vendor. The third tier for each vendor, however, will require a more extensive quest for Karl, Monica, Fisher, and Tammy respectively. Basically, progress through the game and keep your vendor items in stock, and you’ll soon be able to upgrade your deals.

How To Get More Vendor Products (Fishy Sticks, Fish, Etc)

Once you secure trade deals with local vendors, you’ll want to keep those items in stock. But there’s a catch. Each vendor only has a certain amount to sell you each week.

Over time, you can trade in perk points to get more items every week. But ultimately, you want to keep an eye on when each vendor restocks. They will not have more of their products until the restock day. Here is the schedule for when each vendor restocks their products:

TIP: If you’re out of a product and a customer is wandering around looking for it, go talk to them. You’ll be able to tell them the item is out of stock so they stop wasting time looking for it and head to the register to check out.

How To Unlock New Items for Your Store

There are two main ways to get new items to sell at Discounty. First, you will want to pay attention to the computer in the back room. Each day, Discounty Corporate will give you special tasks to complete. Check them off, and you’ll earn points that you can redeem to unlock new products to sell in your shop.

As you progress in the game, you’ll unlock new reward tiers to open up the possibilities for what you can stock on your shelves. Quick pro tip, though. Once you unlock an item, your customers will be looking for it. So, be sure you’ve got shelves ready to go to stock those newly unlocked items during the next business day.

The second way to get new items to sell at Discounty is by unlocking and upgrading trade deals. Each local merchant has 3 tiers to unlock, and each new tier brings you a new product to sell at Discounty.

Once you reach Chapter 4, you will also be able to unlock new automations after restoring Jurgen’s shed.

How to Get More Slots to Hold Items in Your Toolbelt

The Discounty corporate rewards program is also your key to being able to carry more items. Along with new items to sell in the shop, each reward tier offers an expansion to your tool belt. Complete daily Discounty corporate missions and redeem the points to unlock more carrying capacity.

How to Get Rid of Extra Shelves & Coolers

Eventually, the hardware store will have some better shelves and coolers in stock. If you want to upgrade to a shelf with more capacity, or an appealing shelf that boosts sales, you need to make room.

To get rid of old furniture you don’t want in Discounty, head to the junkyard next to the Isenkram Hardware. There is a special dumpster just for unwanted furniture.

It’s the one recycling receptacle that the in-game tutorial never directly explains to you. You’ll find it next to the soda can recycling unit. Discard unwanted furniture here, and you’ll get a bit of cash back.

Where to Find Karl’s Sheep in Discounty

Early on, you’ll meet the farmer Karl. He’s having a tough day, as a fallen tree blocks his road home. Not only that, but his sheep have escaped! Aunt Tellar tasks you with tracking them down. Here’s where to find all 8 of Karl’s sheep.

Vermin Ties – What to Give the Rats of Blomkest to Unlock Fast Travel

As you get further into Discounty, you’ll start to notice strange rats around town. Eventually, you will be able to build an alliance with the rats to unlock fast travel by sewer grate. In each location, the rats have a different request that will help you befriend them.

The NPC that works or lives nearest to the rat’s location will always give you a hint about what they want. For instance, talk to Ted at the hardware store for a tip on what to give the rats nearby, etc. But those hints aren’t always the most obvious, so I’m here to help with exactly what the rats want.

Here’s where to find the rats around Blomkest, and what to give them in each spot.

Who Should You Blame at the Final Trial?

After you complete your investigation into the environmental issues, you’ll have a final choice. Blame the true culprits, or listen to the shadowy figure and blame Tammy. So, which should you choose?

The ending is largely the same no matter who you blame. You will have some slightly different dialogue depending on who is mad at you, Barbara or Tammy. But by and large, this final choice doesn’t have a huge impact on the ending.

Can You Keep Playing Discounty After the Credits Roll?

Yes, you can continue to run Discounty and tie up a few loose ends with the locals after the credits roll. As of August 6th, the free People or Profit update adds a new Chapter 4 post-game, including new quests and characters. Read on for details on how to make the most of the free expansion!

How to Start the New Discounty: People or Profit Content

To enjoy the new People or Profit content in Discounty, make sure you’ve updated your game to the latest version. You’ll also need to finish the main story before you’ll be able to enjoy the endgame content added with the free update.

If all that is in order, simply open up your Discounty save file and step outside your front door. When you do, Aunt Tellar will approach you with some big news. Her dialogue will start the Under New Management quest. This is the beginning of the next phase for Blomkest, and you get to decide what happens next.

Should You Talk to Fisher or Tammy First in People or Profit?

After Aunt Tellar gives you the keys to Discounty, you get to decide where to begin. You can either talk to Fisher first about plans for Blomkest or go see Tammy about the future of Discounty. Who you talk to first doesn’t matter. You will be able to visit both Fisher and Tammy to learn their respective plans for the future of Blomkest and unlock the relevant quests.

After talking to both sides, you will have to make a decision that starts you down the path to people or profit. You can either build the SUBLIME billboard to support a more sustainable Blomkest or work with Tammy to grow Discounty. It’s at this point that you’ll have to make your choice, because you can only build one of the requested billboards.

That said, you will be able to make many more decisions from here that will support either Tammy’s profit-driven mentality or SUBLIME’s community efforts. Each choice will be clearly marked with Tammy’s face or that of the SUBLIME founders, so you’ll always be able to tell whose side you’re on with each choice.

What to Do with the Driftwood in Discounty

The People or Profit update adds driftwood to the dock area of Blomkest. When you first happen upon it, your character will remark that you should take it to Ted at Isekram’s hardware. However, you won’t be able to pick it up at first.

In order to unlock recycling driftwood, you’ll first need to visit the hardware store area. This sparks a cutscene where Ted will explain that you can now turn driftwood into wood for building, letting you complete various repairs and building projects around town. Once you speak to him, you’ll be able to collect driftwood by pressing and holding the A button. You can then recycle it to get materials to help restore Blomkest… or turn Discounty into a full-on empire. That part is up to you.

How to Get All Rebuilding Resources in Discounty

Restoring Blomkest is a big responsibility that somehow falls to you. Once you hit the new People or Profit content in Chapter 4, you’ll be able to restore various buildings around Blomkest. But to do it, you need three resources: wood, metal, and electronics.

To stock up on these resources, you’ll need to collect scraps around town. Then, you can take them to Isekrem’s Hardware to recycle. Here’s where to find the scraps you need for each:

• Wood: Find driftwood near the docks or scrounge for fallen wood in the forest. You can also visit the Drunken Tern once a week on Sunday to pick up used kegs to recycle for wood.
• Metal: There’s an abandoned mine near the farm where you’ll find metal scraps to recycle. Waste from Fishy Sticks & Fishy Fishies can also be recycled as metal.
• Electronics: You can find discarded computers and electronics in the forest. A big pile spawns near the factory on Sunday.

You can also buy these resources from Ted in the recycling yard, exchanging shills for quicker access to restorations. To find out how much of each resource you have, simply stand near a renovation project sign or enter the hardware store recycling area. Then, you’ll see a pop-up that lists how much you have of each rebuilding resource.

All Jurgen Design Blueprints & How to Find Them

In Chapter 4 of Discounty, players finally get to enter Jurgen’s mysterious shed. It’s there that we discover his secret lair, full of inventions in the making. By collecting his blueprints, we can piece together the upgrades that Jurgen was working on. These items will make life at Discounty easier, adding new items like a Self-Checkout and more.

There are a total of 9 possible design blueprints. However, one will be unavailable depending on whether you side with Tammy or with Sublime. So, in any one playthrough, you’ll only have access to 8 total upgrades. Here’s every upgrade blueprint and where to find them.

Inventing items from Jurgen’s blueprints uses the same resources as restoring buildings, primarily wood and shills. So, you may need to prioritize one or the other depending on whether you want to optimize your work at the store or get to the end of the story faster.

Which Buildings Should You Rebuild First in Discounty: People or Profit?

In People or Profit, you have the power to restore the city of Blomkest. However, resources for rebuilding are pretty scarce, especially early on. So, which should you prioritize rebuilding first?

In my experience, you should restore the Mine as soon as possible. It becomes much easier to get the scrap metal you need to restore the other buildings once you’ve restored the Mine, especially the second remodel that opens up the very furthest corner.

After that, I suggest you prioritize the vendors. You need to rebuild/fix their venues before you can unlock and start leveling up trade deals. So, fixing the car, building Muimerp, and restoring the old factory should be top priority.

From there, it’s really up to you. Here’s what restoring the other buildings in Blomkest will get you:

• Restore the shed next to your trailer/house – unlock Jurgen’s experiments, aka new upgrades for Discounty
• Restore the old house by the farm – level up your living space
• Restore various billboards around town – increase customer limit at Discounty
• Restore Cursed but Curious – unlock the ability to paint the outside of Discounty
• Restore the John Key Museum – gain access to one of Jurgen’s blueprints

To fully finish Chapter 4, you will need to restore all the buildings in Blomkest eventually. However, the order in which you fix them can help you optimize your progress.

Where to Find All Bulky Waste to Recycle for Ted in Discounty

Before Ted is willing to build Discounty a new basement, he wants a little help. Ted asks you to gather the town’s big garbage items and recycle them using the furniture recycler. You need to gather 8 bulk waste items in total before you’ll be able to unlock the basement. They’re typically large items like TVs or trash bags, so they’re fairly easy to spot. But that doesn’t mean it’s always easy to track down all 9. So if you need a little help, here’s where to find every item of bulky waste for the Buyer and Cellar quest.

Once you recycle all 9 bulky waste items, Ted will build the Discounty cellar overnight. You should be able to access it the following morning.

Where to Burn the Unrecyclable Styrofoam for Ted

Ted has a lot of requests in the Discounty update. To expand your store’s new basement, you’ll need to find somewhere to burn a bunch of non-recyclable styrofoam for Ted. It takes up quite a bit of space in your inventory, so you’ll likely want to get rid of it fast. Thankfully, you won’t have to take it far.

You can burn the styrofoam in Elmer’s fireplace. To do so, simply go into Elmer’s house (the one with the big purple door) with the styrofoam in your inventory. This will trigger a cutscene where you can dispose of the trash for Ted. After that, just update him, and you’ll be able to expand Discounty’s basement once more.

What Should You Bring to Solruna’s Ritual In the Woods?

After you restore Cursed but Curious, Solruna will offer to help you cleanse Discounty of evil spirits with a new ritual. In reality, this will let you repaint the outside of the store. She requests that you meet her at her ritual site in the woods with “something from the shop.” So, what should you bring? Well, it depends on what color you want to paint the store.

The paint that results from the ritual will match the color of what you bring. I gave her some shampoo, so I got a bright pink paint for Discounty. You can bring her something new to redo the color if you don’t like what you get. But keep in mind, you’ll also need 5,000 Shills to complete the ritual. If you don’t have the cash, you’ll lose the item you gave her and get nothing in return. Ask me how I know.
