If you love witchy video games and books as much as I do, chances are you’ve at least thought about getting into Tarot. I’ve been reading Tarot for myself and others for over 10 years now, and my Tarot deck collection is… well, let’s not talk about the space it takes up. But there’s no denying that many Tarot decks are pretty expensive, making it hard to get into the practice if you’re on a budget.
Thankfully, you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a solid starter Tarot deck. But you do want to find a deck that will actually use the archetypes and imagery correctly, or at least that comes with a good guidebook to explain the differences, especially if you’re newer to reading Tarot. And that means choosing your budget Tarot deck wisely. So, I’m here to round up a few great, affordable Tarot decks to add to your collection, whether you’re just starting out or want something new to read with.

1) The Rider Tarot Deck

Price: $21.95 on Amazon
Most of the books out there that teach you to read Tarot will be based on the Rider-Waite system. So, it’s a good place for beginners to start, and it’s a favorite among seasoned readers like myself, too. This budget-friendly deck is a straightforward reprint of the original Rider-Waite-Smith deck that most modern Tarot decks are based on.
Personally, I’ve never loved the art style of the original Rider-Waite-Smith. But it is one of the easiest and most affordable Tarot decks, because the imagery aligns really clearly with each card’s archetypal meaning. And this one on Amazon is just over $20, with pretty frequent discounts on top of that low price. If you like the OG art or are a Tarot newbie, this is a great budget-friendly option for you.
2) The Wild Unknown Tarot

Price: $39.99 on Amazon
The Wild Unknown is a great Tarot deck for those who feel an affinity for nature. It was the starter deck for one of my good friends, and it has served them well over the years. The deck uses the Rider-Waite system, but with imagery of animals and other nature-related elements. That makes it great for those who like to read more intuitively, rather than relying on the pictures to tell the full story. But don’t worry, it does also come with a pretty comprehensive guidebook if you need a little help interpreting the cards.
This deck is a bit pricier than the others on this list. However, in terms of high-quality full-size decks, it’s still pretty affordable, and it often goes on sale for less. As I write this, you can get The Wild Unknown Tarot for 31% off, making it just under $30. So if this one speaks to you, wait for one of those frequent Amazon discounts on it to snag it for less.
3) Light Seer’s Tarot

Price: $26.99 on Amazon
This is one of those decks I have to stop and linger over every time I see it in the wild. It has stunning artwork that puts a modern twist on the traditional Major and Minor Arcana from the Rider-Waite-Smith system. Like most decks, it comes with a guidebook, but the images are also pretty illustrative of each card’s traditional meaning. A real win-win.
The Light Seer’s Tarot is one of the more affordable (legitimate) Tarot decks on Amazon, and it’s well worth adding to your collection. Like many other traditionally published Tarot decks on Amazon, it frequently gets an additional discount over its list price, so you can snag it for as little as $20 if you get the timing right.
4) Tarot of the Divine

Price: $19.99 on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Tarot-Divine-Guidebook-Inspired-Folklore/dp/0593135148
This deck is inspired by fairtales and folklore from around the world, bringing a global feel to the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith system. If you enjoy learning about fables and mythology from a variety of cultures, the guidebook for this one will be a real treasure trove. It explains how the traditional meaning and images of the Tarot relate to the mythology depicted on each card.
The Divine Tarot is quite affordable, especially given its stunning art style. On Amazon, this deck is typically priced at $19.99 USD, but is pretty often marked down even further. So if the colorful multicultural art style speaks to you, this one is a great budget Tarot deck to add to your collection.
5) The Modern Witch Tarot Deck

Price: $26.99 on Amazon
If there’s one deck I nearly buy every single time I see it, it’s The Modern Witch Tarot Deck. This deck puts an inclusive, contemporary twist on the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith imagery. The colors are vibrant, paying homage to the original artwork while giving it a much-needed modern glow-up.
Though not the cheapest Tarot deck you can get on Amazon, it’s certainly still a solid budget option. It’s great for beginners and seasoned readers familiar with the Rider-Waite-Smith system, and it’s priced at just $26.99 at full price. Currently, it’s 32% off as I’m writing this, so you can snag it for just over $18. Now, if you’ll excuse me, this might be the moment I finally hit “add to cart” on this one.
