Basic Gameplay Overview

In Coffee Caravan, your primary objective is making delicious drinks and serving them promptly to keep your customers happy. The game is organized into rounds following a World Map with different levels that each have a unique function.
TIP: Hop into the Character Creator from the main menu before starting a new game if you want to personalize your character. You won’t get prompted when starting a new save file, but you can make changes from this main menu screen at any time.
The World Map determines what’s next in your coffee journey, and there are occasional branching pathways to determine what happens next. You’ll work your way through the map, climbing the branching tree until you reach the Extreme Day – a massively busy customer round to cap off your run and unlock big perks like a larger caravan.
One thing I love about Coffee Caravan is that you don’t lose everything when your current run ends. If a customer runs out of patience, it’s game over, similar to games like PlateUp!
However, there’s a key difference – you’ll lose your progress on the world map and all the money you earned, but you get to keep your kitchen upgrades and recipes! This helps you maintain a sense of forward momentum even when you don’t quite get that Caramel Latte to the table on time.
Can You Use Controllers?
Yes, Coffee Caravan has full controller support in Steam, so it should work well with your controller. I’ve been using a DualSense controller without any issues.
One thing to note is that the tutorial doesn’t change if you’re using a controller. I had to experiment to figure out which buttons to press to make things happen because the on-screen prompts were for mouse & keyboard gameplay.
How Long is Coffee Caravan?
Like any good restaurant management game, you can put as much time into Coffee Caravan as you want. It took me about 3 hours of gameplay to fully unlock all recipes in the Coffee World, and both Tea World and Ice Cream World have roughly the same amount of recipes and content.
Altogether, I imagine it’s roughly 9-11 hours of gameplay to unlock all currently available content. The game does also get fairly regular updates with new content & bug fixes, so there will be more to do as time goes on.
Is Coffee Caravan Steam Deck Compatible?
Yes, you can play Coffee Caravan on the Steam Deck. Early reviews from players say that the game performs quite well on the device, meaning you can take your coffee caravan on the go in real life, too.
Does Coffee Caravan Have Multiplayer?
No, Coffee Caravan does not have multiplayer gameplay. At launch, the game centered on a single-player, tiny and cozy restaurant management experience.
As of November 2025, Broccoli Games confirmed that it is working on a co-op update that will release with the game’s next major update. So, multiplayer is on the way but is still not available as of April 2026.
How the World Map Works in Coffee Caravan

The World Map page plots out what will happen next in your current Caravan run. The possible entries on the map are:
- Customer Round (Easy)
- Customer Round (Hard)
- Shop
- Treasure
- Unknown (Mystery Event)
During Customer Rounds, you’ll serve up drinks to customers. Easy rounds have fewer customers who are more spread out, while the harder rounds feature more customers who come at you fast. You’ll be able to select your recipes for the day and rearrange your equipment at the start of each round.
You can only buy new upgrades and recipes when you reach a Shop icon on the map, so plan accordingly when you hit a fork in the road.
The Treasure category lets you get some goods for free, choosing between three options that typically include some kitchen upgrades or some free coins for your next Shop trip.
Finally, the Unknown icon will spawn a mystery event. This could wind up being a customer round or a free trip to the store, or it could be a new effect that will impact your customer’s patience or other aspects of gameplay going forward.
How to Change the Difficulty Settings in Coffee Caravan
With the 1.1 Update, Coffee Caravan now has the option to toggle between three difficult modes – cozy, normal, and hard mode. You can change the settings at any time, even for a saved game in-progress.

To change your difficulty, load or start a new save. Then, hit the main menu pause button and go to difficulty. From there, you’ll be able to toggle between the three settings.

Cozy Mode increases customer patience by 2x, making it less stressful to stay on top of orders and keep customers happy.
Normal Mode is the standard play setting for Coffee Caravan, with average patience and customer difficulty.
If you’re up for a challenge, Hard Mode makes the recipes a bit more complex, turning the difficulty up a notch in the process.
For all three settings, you can use the checkbox at the bottom of the screen to determine if you’ll have to restart your progress through the map when customer patience runs out.

Equipment Upgrades & What They Do

As you get more customers in Coffee Caravan, efficiency will become key. Thankfully, many upgrades to your standard equipment can help. Upgrades can be purchased from the Shop, or you can sometimes get them as Free Treasure. Once you have an upgraded item, it’s yours to keep, so you can experiment with which ones are best for your workflow.
There are a few main categories for upgrades, which improve upon the items in your caravan in the following ways:
- Automatic
- Larger Capacity
- Turbo (Faster Task Speed)
You can choose an automatic, larger, or turbo version of most appliances to help speed up your work in the way that best suits your play style. Personally, I love to automate and have to refill my coffee pot or milk frother less often, so I love automatic and larger capacity upgrades.
What Are the Unknown Events in Coffee Caravan?
As you make your way through the World Map tree in Coffee Caravan, you’ll come across question mark icons that are labeled “Unknown.” Before you choose that path in the branching tree, you might be wondering about the possibilities.
Unknown events are random happenings and can result in a range of things. You might get an extra visit to the Shop to grab some more equipment, or you might wind up in a customer round. Unknown events can also add certain effects to your run, such as increased or decreased customer patience. Once applied, these remain active until the end of your run.
How to Unlock Tea World

More of a tea person than a coffee drinker? Coffee Caravan includes an entire world where you’ll serve up tea-based recipes. It is unlocked once you’ve played your way through Coffee World long enough to unlock every available coffee recipe. Once you do, you’ll be able to start a new game in Tea World and craft up matcha for your customers.
How to Unlock Ice Cream World

Ice Cream World arrived in Coffee Caravan with the November 12 update. The world should be automatically available when you start a new game, and features exciting new ice cream treats to unlock and serve!
If you’re new to Coffee Caravan and haven’t yet completed Tea World, it’s possible this will be required to unlock the Ice Cream World content.
