Fans of titles like Hades had best buckle up, as Whitethorn Games and EPHEMERA have just yanked the sheet off a stunning roguelike project. Kernel Hearts combines fast-paced combat with anime-inspired graphics, as players fight to save the world
Taking on the role of a M.A.H.O.U., players will join up with deadly magical girls to battle against a god set on destroying the world. The combination of Sailor Moon and Persona 5 vibes mesh perfectly in the trailer that dropped alongside the game’s reveal.
Kernel Hearts Challenges Players To Save The World
In true, roguelike style, Kernel Hearts has players complete playthroughs of a dungeon run as they attempt to reach and stop the god trying to wipe out the world. As character skills are expanded, players will be able to go further in each run, tackling powerful boss Guardians that will need to be taken down before they can move forward.
Kernel Hearts will also offer co-op for up to three players, allowing gamers to team up and face down the threat of the apocalypse together. However, fighting, leveling, and looking sleek in a magical girl transformation aren’t the only things to do in this game.
Find Love in a Hopeless Place?
For anyone who couldn’t get enough of the romance subplots in Hades, we have good news – Kernel Hearts has a slew of characters to befriend and possibly romance. As seen in the trailer, the game is host to an array of interesting NPCs.
These characters can assist the player in their mission to defeat their enemies, all while forging friendships and romantic relationships. This is exciting news for anyone who likes to take a break from brutal combat to get cozy with an anime cutie.
Currently, there isn’t a set release window for Kernel Hearts. However, players can keep up to date on any news by visiting the Whitethorn Games or EPHEMERA websites. It is planned for a PC release via Steam sometime in the near future.
