There have been plenty of Injustice 3 rumors lately, and a new leak hints at two super-heroines who could be coming along for the ride. While NetherRealm has yet to confirm a new entry in its DC-based fighting game franchise, sources have claimed that Injustice 3 will be the studio’s next big project after 2023’s Mortal Kombat 1. Just last week, a listing for a 2D fighting game playtest was leaked, one that supposedly took place in Culver City, California – the same city that NetherRealm parent company, Warner Bros. Games, happens to reside.
Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the tested game was Injustice 3 or that NetherRealm was involved at all. In fact, studio head and Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon previously stated that his team was “actively pursuing” another installment in that particular franchise back in May – making Injustice 3 seem unlikely. However, the past year or so has seen more than its fair share of insider claims that Injustice 3 is in the works – from voice actors letting it slip that they are reprising their roles to Injustice 3 popping up in resumes.
Supergirl And Batwoman Could Be In Injustice 3
Speaking of resumes, MP1st reports that a stuntworker who has worked with NetherRealm in the past recently shared a listing for Injustice 3 – namely providing motion capture for Supergirl and Batwoman. This listing also claims that NetherRealm animator and stunt coordinator Jake Huang will return after his work on Mortal Kombat 1.
While this is far from any sort of official confirmation of Injustice 3 or its in-game roster, the biggest takeaway is the two characters named in the listing. Supergirl was already featured in 2017’s Injustice 2, where she played a major role in the game’s story. There, she initially supported her cousin Superman’s One Earth Regime, only to turn against him after learning just how far the former hero had fallen. She then helped Batman take Superman down before joining the newly reformed Justice League in Injustice 2‘s canon ending.
Meanwhile, Batwoman has only been featured in the Injustice mobile game, though this version was based on the CW Batwoman show. In the tie-in Injustice comics, Kate Kane joined her cousin Batman in resisting Superman’s Regime, only to die at the wayward Kryptonian’s hand during the Year Five run in 2016. This makes her rumored return in Injustice 3 interesting, given how the comics are canon to the games and serve as backstory between installments.
Perhaps Injustice 3‘s Batwoman will be a new character taking up Kate’s mantle, just like Ryan Wilder did in the Arrowverse. This could be a version of Kate from another Earth, similar to how Green Arrow jumped between worlds in Injustice 2. Or maybe NetherRealm will simply retcon Batwoman’s death as it did for Scarecrow – who was supposedly killed by the Joker in the backstory of the first Injustice game, only to return to terrify opponents and players alike in the sequel.
This is all just speculation at this point, and it’s worth repeating that Injustice 3 has not been officially confirmed in any capacity. That being said, if Injustice 3 really is in the works at NetherRealm, the developers might announce it soon – perhaps at The Game Awards 2026 in December?
