Nothing beats the high of finding a physical copy of a favorite game while hunting through the sale racks at GameStop. Gamers have been shuffling through the bins and display racks in these stores for decades, dragging treasures out treasures lost time time. Unfortunately, the experience comes with a guaranteed hurdle – terrible price tag stickers. However, GameStop has announced that some big changes are rolling out to address the infamous pricetag misery as part of their initiative to create a better in-store experience.
If there is one thing most gamers have struggled with, it’s the removal of GameStop price tags. These sticky, mushy, nasty tags are slapped on most items in the store and have the incredible ability to cement themselves to everything they touch. The longer they are on the surface of an item, the more adherent they become. Most gamers can tell a favorite physical copy graced GameStop shelves by the telltale grease, sticky square at the top corner of a box that forever gathers dust and sticks to other game boxes.
This fate has become an accepted, if unfortunate, staple of shopping at a GameStop. A forgotten copy of Assassin’s Creed for the PS3 may only be five dollars in the discount bin, but the sticker residue will be there forever. Thankfully, it seems the GameStop gluey sticker reign of terror could be coming to an end, according to a statement put out on social media.
A New Future For GameStop Stickers
In a social media post shared to the official GameStop account on Twitter, it was announced that the price tags would be getting a complete makeover.
The statement explained “the end of the company’s hard-to-remove price stickers,” noting their impact on the quality of the games purchased by players. The announcement came with a breakdown of the new sticker structure, as well as some humorous jabs at the issue and how it has terrorized GameStop shoppers.

The post shared that a manager said, “For years, our stickers gave 110%. Unfortunately, that included a level of adhesive that is no longer aligned with our long-term strategic vision. Today, we thank those stickers for their service and respectfully relieve them of duty.”
The new program is designed to introduce easy-lift stickers that provide a cleaner removal process that will leave less adhesive residue and require less effort to detach. The breakdown also added that the process should “reduce the need to mutter ‘you’ve got to be kidding me’ in front of the counter.”
It was also stated that the update should help the stickers “remove cleanly, and without requiring a lost fingernail, heat gun, or blister.”
To commemorate this historic moment in GameStop’s customer service revamp, the store is offering a 20% bonus trade credit on games traded in for pre-orders on new games.
The new stickers are meant to deploy immediately, according to the update, but stickers already placed on games will not be removed. This means that gamers who want to experience the harrowing challenge of removing these extra sticky tags will have just a bit longer to do so before moving into a more comfortable and less damaging future.
