Fun Dog Studios has released the first gameplay footage of its upcoming squad-based looter shooter, The Forever Winter, giving players a taste of its grim, gritty future and tension-filled gameplay.
Players can expect giant mechs, bleak settings, and challenging combat and stealth encounters that will make the fight for survival all the more thrilling and dangerous, along with hard-fought victories and crushing defeats. Because war is hell.
Survival Is the Aim of the Game in the Forever Winter, Not Guns Blazing Carnage
The trailer showcases the intense moment-to-moment gameplay players will experience in The Forever Winter, including several encounters with large mech enemies and plenty of visuals of its wartorn world that players must navigate carefully.
In groups of up to 4 or with AI-driven squad members, players will enter into the dystopia world in a bid to collect any resources they can, scavenging across battlefields and ruins left behind by the warring factions they will encounter. Along the way, they will come across warring factions and encounters, complete with their agenda and missions that react to the player and other NPCs, making for dynamic PvEvE encounters and experiences when you are out exploring.
Unlike other looter shooters, The Forever Winter isn’t about power fantasies and guns-blazing combat. Miles Williams, CEO and Creative Director of Fun Dog Studios says in the game’s press release, “You’ll be rewarded for fighting smarter, not harder, and maintaining situational awareness in a world we designed to be as unforgiving as it is unforgettable. While your power will grow, you’ll always be a mouse in a maze. To survive, you’ll have to work together.”

Players are outmatched and outgunned in nearly every encounter in The Forever Winter, and stealth, clever teamwork, and guerilla warfare are the optimal ways to handle or avoid the world’s dangers. By gearing up and customizing load-outs, upgrading gear, and preparing with their scavenged resources, players can help improve their chances of survival because death is otherwise a certainty. With each death, inventories are lost, and progress is erased.
The Forever Winter looks to be a challenging yet deeply strategic and rewarding experience for players who want something a little different than the usual guns-blazing gameplay. This first gameplay trailer paints a good picture of what’s to come and builds excitement for any new information about the game. Until then, the game is currently available on Wishlist on Steam.
