Fantasy might be the most obvious genre choice for readers who love TTRPGS like Dungeons & Dragons. But as a longtime contemporary Romance reader, I especially love books that bring tabletop and RPGs into the modern age.
Over the years, I’ve made it one of my life’s missions as a reader to find contemporary Romance with a dash of D&D. If the existence of the books on this list is any indication, I’m not the only one.

Well Met by Jen DeLuca

My curiosity about RPGs like D&D led me to my first Renaissance Festival years ago, and I’ve gone back every year since. Jen DeLuca doesn’t give us just one book set at a Renaissance Faire – she gave us four. This series starts with Well Met and it remains my favorite one.
Well Met throws readers into the makings of a small local Ren Faire when Emily agrees to serve as her niece’s chaperone for the season. We get to go behind the scenes at the Renaissance Fest with her, seeing its inner workings.
Oh, and the romance elements? Spicy and full of roleplay as Simon flirts with his pirate Ren Faire self. If you love Dungeons & Dragons and/or hitting up your local Renaissance Festival, Well Met is the romance book you need right now.
How Not to Fall in Love by Jacqueline Firkins

If you love a good love triangle and some solid spicy tension at a LARPing event, get yourself a copy of How Not to Fall in Love. Immediately.
This is another YA contemporary romance with my favorite childhood best friends-to-lovers trope. The childhood best friend in question is really into a full weekend camping trip with his LARPing group. Naturally, we get to go along for the ride.
How Not to Fall in Love is a super sweet contemporary Romance that fills my nerdy heart with joy.
Dungeons & Drama by Kristy Boyce

Dungeons & Drama, a YA Contemporary Romance, follows a young drama-obsessed theater kid.
She’s forced to work at her dad’s gaming store as part of a punishment and winds up playing Dungeons & Dragons with her coworker. Her cute, nerdy coworker. Remember, it’s a Romance, people.
While Riley is initially skeptical of TTRPGs, she quickly learns to love it. If you want a romance with actual scenes around the D&D table, this one will deliver.
