plants v zombies
If you read last week’s issue and are wondering, I didn’t really gel with Keeper as much as I was hoping to. DoubleFine games seem to be very hit-and-miss with me.
Been playing a good bit of Ball X Pit today though, and that’s really hitting the Vampire Survivors sweet spot, with a healthy dose of Loop Hero and Breakout thrown in. Would recommend if you enjoy any of those three titles.
Now, on to the main topic – PvZ
In 2024, a Reddit user posed the question "How old are you and why do you like Pvz?" They began their post by saying, "I started in the franchise when I was 10 with PvZ1." All quotes in this issue of Ludology Now are taken from that thread.
My kids love Plants vs. Zombies. Not the remake, Plants vs. Zombies Replanted, which I just recently learned is a thing.
No, I’m talking about the original Xbox Arcade game. They love it. And they’re not alone.
I’m 18 and I like gw1 and 2 because me and my uncle used to play it together when I was growing up and now that I’m older to actually under the game I see how good it really is

Plants vs. Zombies is a perfect game for children because it’s black and white morality. Plants are good. Zombies are bad. Don’t let the zombies get in.
It’s interesting what kids identify with these days. My three-year-old daughter loves Super Kitties, Bluey, Blue’s Clues, The Muppets, the music video for Spooky Scary Skeletons, and Plants vs. Zombies.
18 and i like it because I’ve been playing the games since I was like 6 and the shooter games are some of the least toxic class based shooter games .by Illustrious_Web_866
My six-year-old son loves Minecraft, Pikmin, Wheel of Fortune, Hollywood Game Night, PJ Masks, Blue’s Clues, Among Us, the hide-and-seek game from Squid Game, and Plants vs. Zombies.
I don’t know how the Squid Game thing happened, some combination of influences from Roblox and inappropriately labeled YouTube Kids videos, it seems like. Kids love that creepy robot. They have one at our local Spirit Halloween.
I’m 23 and I’ve been playing since 2014 on my Xbox 360. My little brother and I would play with each other everyday after school, and I’m glad that there is still a big player base for me to enjoy the game to this day.

Our fifteen-year-old remembers playing Plants vs. Zombies when she was younger. My wife remembers her mom playing Plants vs. Zombies. One of my best friends told me the other day he remembers playing it ‘like a decade ago.’
Was I the only person who missed this? To be fair, I was not active in gaming during the heyday of Xbox Live Arcade. These were my off years, when I was too busy working at production catering and/or cellular phone repair, depending on the year.
I’m 16, pvz1 was the first game I ever played. I fell in love for the franchise in elementary school and still come back to the games from time to time

I never played Plants vs. Zombies before my son asked me to download it. And, you know what, it’s fun. I get it. It’s a solid tower defense gameplay loop.
Zombies have always been an easy sell for kids. I wonder what that says about humans as a species.
I’m 21 and I started with the original PvZ back in 2011 when a friend of mine got it as a birthday present at our local Chuck E Cheese. We played Co-Op and it was awesome. I still play the original from time to time and play a lot of PvZ Garden Warfare 2. I got it on the first week it launched and it’s still the best game I’ve ever played. Still play it to this day even if I’m maxed out

I am glad so many kids identify with plants as the ‘good guys’ in a situation like this. As someone who believes deep down that plants are just as alive as any animal or human, I enjoy when they are made the heroes in any story.
Gotta go back to the Ball x Pit now. Those farms aren’t going to harvest themselves.
