Making Honey can be done as early as Spring of Year One in Moonlight Peaks. The Blueprint for the Beehive is locked behind friendship advancement, but doesn’t require much to unlock. Because of this, Honey is an excellent early moneymaker and can be critical for buying early-game seeds and upgrades.
In this guide, we will break down how to unlock the Beehive, how to craft it, and how to start making honey. Moonlight Peaks has streamlined the honey process, making this one of the easier apiaries to care for in the cozy genre of farming sims.
How to Get the Beehive Blueprint in Moonlight Peaks
To get the Beehive Blueprint in Moonlight Peaks, you must increase your friendship level with Luna. It can be difficult to gauge exactly what your current friendship levels are with each character early in the game, but we received the Blueprint for the Beehive in a letter from Luna after speaking with her several times and bringing a few gifts. The letter arrived before reaching a full friendship heart with her during spring of year 1.
After obtaining the Beehive Blueprint, it will automatically be added to the items you can craft at your workbench. If you still have your workbench inside your home, as we do, go ahead and pop in and open up the menu to look at the blueprint.
How to Craft the Beehive in Moonlight Peaks
To craft the Beehive, you are going to need x10 Hardwood Planks and 20 Fiber bundles per hive built.
The fiber is obtained by swinging the Scyth tool at tall grass and weeds. It is likely you will already have a good amount of it lying around after clearing areas for farming. Unfortunately, the Hardwood Planks are a bit trickier.
How to Get Hardwood Planks
To get Hardwood Planks, you are going to need to have built a Refiner and have upgraded to a Copper Axe. The Refiner is an early item available at your Workbench that costs x20 Wood and x20 Stone to build. Once placed, it can convert raw materials into processed materials over the course of several in-game hours.
To get the Copper Axe, you will need to have unlocked the Misty Shores and entered the caves where Copper Nodes are located, and gathered enough raw Copper ore to build the Furnace for x15 Copper Ore and x5 Refined Stone.
After this, you will need to make x3 Copper Bars in the Furnace using x4 Copper Ore and x1 Charcoal.
Take the x3 Copper Bars and 1000G to the Howling Hammer when it is open. Speak with Ridge behind the counter and request the Copper Axe upgrade. The Axe will be available immediately.
Once you have the Copper Axe, head back to your farm and cut one of the large fallen tree trunks lying around the property. These logs drop Dark Wood. It can then be placed in the Refinery to be processed into Hardwood Planks. Each Hardwood Plank will cost x3 Dark Wood logs.
How to Get Honey in Moonlight Peaks
After crafting and placing your Beehive, making honey is relatively straightforward. Honey will passively populate inside the hive at a slow rate when first placed.
However, to speed up Honey production, you can place flowers in the glowing range area around the hive for a Bonus to the base Honey production modifier. As you place flowers, you can check how many additional jars of honey are being produced by interacting with the hive.
Jars of Honey can be given to Chester to be sold for 20G each, or they can be used in cooking recipes. They also make amazing gifts for the locals of Moonlight Peaks.
The best way to generate a lot of Honey during the early game is to build three or four Beehives and surround them with flowers. While a single jar of Honey isn’t going to bring in a lot of extra money, several fully expanded Beehives can add up quickly.
When fully equipped with flowers, each can produce 2 dozen jars of honey per batch. Because of this, we recommend jumping on Beehive farming as soon as they become available during Moonlight Peaks.
