lan party adventure
LAN Party Adventures, from what I can tell from the demo, is a fun game about setting up computers for LAN parties while a larger story unfolds in the background.
LAN Party Adventures seems like it would be worth your time, if you have an affinity for late 90s PC get-togethers and games like Viscera Cleanup Detail or House Flipper.
There is more of a puzzle-solving element than can be found in those games, crucially. The puzzles in LAN Party Adventures are not overly complex (at least, not here in the demo) but they do offer a bit of lateral thinking not usually present in these types of games, which is nice.
In other words, at various times in my life this would have felt like exactly my kind of game. I can’t justify the expense right now, but the free demo of LAN Party Adventures on Steam is fun.
If you can afford the whole thing, and it sounds like interesting subject matter, I’d recommend it. That’s about all I’ve got for the review portion of this column.
It’s been a busy week, and, as a father of multiple children, I don’t really have time for LAN parties any more.
But I remember them.
LAN parties were hot, sweaty places, filled with cigarette smoke and teenage body odor. LAN parties took hours to assemble, took place in dark, cramped rooms and church recreational complexes, and everyone was joking about drinking energy drinks called BAWLS.
They were fun and gross and overwhelming and disgusting and the more I play LAN Party Adventures, the more I think “Oh, right, a large part of me hated this.”
If you want to learn more, I HIGHLY recommend the book LAN Party by Merritt K.
For me, some experiences are best left as memories.
