I sure like opening Steam
and GOG and Epic Games
and scanning the sales
and new releases,
looking for games I haven’t played yet
or heard from
in a while.
The problem is, lately,
it seems to be
really hard
to play games at all.
Maybe it’s my age,
and all of the things
I already said I would do.
It’s time to check in
with someone,
most likely.
Free times are hard to find
and when they come I just want to sleep.
It’s hard to play war
with the enemy outside
and picking up a controller
to be somewhere else
feels wrong
when my neighbors
are scared.
When you can’t trust the maps
or your phone
or the news
and the definition of news
might be different
for you
it’s not good.
It’s not good
and the longer it’s tolerated
the worse it is getting
and there doesn’t seem to be an end
in sight
yet.
That doesn’t mean there’s not one.
But I worry
what it will cost us
but I worry more
what will happen
if we don’t even try.
So it’s hard to play games
right now, at least,
and I’m sorry
this is the best
I’ve got in me
this week.
They say you should
grieve in the morning,
fight in the day,
and spend the whole night dancing.
I want
to go dancing
soon.
