Apex Legends has seen a little comeback the deeper we get into 2026, and now Season 29 seems set to push it right over the edge.
With the initial reveal of Axle, the new Legend joining the game in Season 29: Overclocked, we’ve been given a look at a character who could seriously shake up the meta. I’ve spoken to ALGS pros in the past, and many of them have pointed out that, no matter what a new Legend brings, the current meta always becomes the norm once again. I don’t see that happening with Axle.
The Apex Legends Community Is In For A Shock When Axle Speeds Onto The Scene
Alright, so this trailer doesn’t show off Axle’s exact abilities or Ultimate in the way we’re used to from more detailed videos, but we can glean a lot from what we’ve been shown. First and foremost is that Axle is a speed demon, a Legend who can get you from A to B in next to no time at all.
During her time racing in Redline, she lost many things, including, I assume, her leg. Not to worry, though, because she’s got a prosthetic with a built-in wheel that allows her to slide for elongated periods of time. This also has the added benefit of being able to launch into a melee attack at speed and take enemies unawares.
Right at the end of the trailer, we catch a glimpse of some sort of portal ability. I can’t quite tell if it’s Axle’s, but it certainly looks like she can get out of a pinch using this portal to surprise enemies by blasting through some otherwise impenetrable surfaces. The final ability we see is her drones, which launch at enemies and explode, causing devastating damage.
There’s no more stressful time in Apex Legends than when you’re moving with the circle as it closes in. If another team spots you, you’re an easy target and pretty much guaranteed to be shot dead. Having Axle speed her way ahead, whilst being so low, would be a massive advantage, as is any Legend that can quickly break through a wall to destroy your enemy’s tactics.
The drones do seem rather basic, but we don’t know everything about Axle yet, so I’m willing to bet there’s something we don’t know that makes them quite special. If nothing else, it’s nice to have another Legend join Crypto with a drone.
I also must say that Axle is ripe for some incredible skins. She’s a racer and has one of the coolest-looking outfits in the game. If Respawn Entertainment doesn’t make her some fabulous skins to unlock and earn, I’ll be seriously disappointed. Hopefully, she’s the star of the new Battle Pass because that would make me buy it on day one.
